Scourgelaws

It is well known that Aedan is founded on the principle of "freedom for all, unless it infringes on another's freedom". Many scholars have often joked that the Scourgelaws are founded on a similar principle, if it had been lit on fire and one forgot the second half of the principle.   The Scourgelaws are a group of Aedian citizens who believe that the Aedan Parliament infringes too much on their rights and work to abolish not just the Aedan government, but all forms of authority. They typically employ methods of violence to achieve these goals including riots, sabotage, and attacking Sensors and other government officials.   Despite their violent tendencies, their principles are still understandable to many Aedians, particularly younger ones, and each year they continue to get new recruits. Across the country there are always stories of Queen's Wardens taking liberal interpretations of laws and their applications, or of the young and rich receiving competitive positions presumably through bribes, or any number of injustices. These stories - both lived and not - fuel the fervour found within Scourgelaws recruits, driving them to take up arms against their government.   Enforcement of the Scourgelaws is difficult if they haven't done anything more than criticize, leading to frustration within the Queen's Wardens. As well, many Aedians view the Scourgelaws' goals as juvenile, with the desire for complete freedom without consequences being compared to how a child might view the world.   The Scourgelaws have no formal organization or hierarchy, and typically work as small cells with their own - sometimes conflicting - goals. These cells can be found throughout Aedan, with some copycats spreading to the nearby Estalia and the Summer Shores.
