Parliament House

Home of the Aedan Parliament, Parliament House consists of several stone structures connected together by a series of tunnels and passageways, sitting in the centre of Aedia. These buildings don't just provide spaces for governing, but also include office spaces for government agents and agencies, and even space for some private enterprises. Parliament House has a "free connection" policy, where any citizen can request that their property be connected to the House, providing them both interior access throughout the city, as well as government-provided protection at their entrance. Many groups have taken the House up on their offer, making Parliament House become a sprawling complex with tendrils spread throughout the city. Although these added buildings officially become merged into "Parliament House", they typically retain their original names for ease of navigation.   One interesting feature of the governmental core of the House is the policy to keep it as a "Living Building", as officially, the House is never finished construction. These renovations are typically minor, consisting of the addition of stone carvings on previously blank surfaces, but sometimes it's major, including refurbishments and expansions.   One example of a major renovation is the recent expansion of the House Floor, where many Parliament works are completed, including ceremonies and debates. As each member of Parliament represents a set number of constituents, as the population increases, so do the number of members increase. Usually this can be handled simply by the addition of extra chairs to the assembly, however, when it reaches the point where none of the members can move because of the cluster of seats, the Floor is needed to be physically expanded. With the advent of the Kinetic Engine and the population boom which followed it, the Floor was expanded by the construction of an addition to the existing building, requiring extensive protection of the historic facia, and careful demolition of the masonry.
