Jine and the Valley of Light

Squatting at the foothills of the Devil's Teeth Range, Jine is one of the only places resembling a city within The Barrens. Consisting of a collection of hundreds of tents, the "city" is constantly shifting as people continuously arrive at and depart.

Law and Order?

Equally rare, Jine is one of the few places in the Barrens which have a clear set of laws. Violence is banned from the city, and anyone found breaking this rule will find themselves removed from the city's protection. Jine has no formal police, and the doling out of punishments are left to the collection of people living in the city at any given time. Those without the city's protection can be treated as if they were out on the Barrens itself, leaving them vulnerable to raids, killing, or theft. Additionally, those whose tents are near the boundary of the city need to be constantly vigilant, as, if all their neighbours move their tents, they will find themselves on an island technically outside the city.

The Valley of Light

Jine sits at the base of the Valley of Light. This lush valley is a very spiritual place for the people of the Barrens, and it's believed that climbing the valley will rid one of their burdens. Many people who have climbed it have described similar feelings of freedom and peace from the top. Because of this, most of the people of Jine are pilgrims seeking to make this climb, with many coming from all corners of the Barrens.

Departing

Although the Valley of Light is rich with fruits and animals, hunting and gathering is strickly forbidden, under punishment of removal of the city's protection. As such, everyone ends up needing to leave the city to find food and water.
