Ambourd Spiked Collar

Ambourd spiked collars are an ancient form of restraint, born out of fear of Caedesthropy.   The collar consists of a large, steel circle with spikes pointed inwards all along its centre. The collar is held in place by a metal frame worn as a backpack by the imprisoned. The collar is designed such that there is enough space for a regular person's neck to fit in it with some discomfort, but is far too tight for any necks larger.   The collar was originally invented specifically for prisoners infected with Caedesthropy, to prevent them from transforming into their monsterous form, as, at the time, it was believed that the transformation was optional and under control by the infected. The realities of the collar, however, is that the transformation is involuntary, and the collars aren't enough to kill the Caedes. Due to their natural healing abilities, the spikes wouldn't kill their wearer, but it would instead drive them into a violent rage. Upon transforming back, the wearer would be left with a series of scars along their necks, known as "Ambourd Kisses". As well, although they have been used on Caedes, more often they are used on uninfected prisoners, as the use of them are approved with the "suspicion someone is Caedes". The wearing of the collar - even when it fits - can still be painful, due to the substantial weight and nicking the spikes on accidents.   Although the collar takes its name after Fort Ambourd, due to its popularity in the area, the collars are used throughout Estalia, particularly in the regions at the base of the Devil's Teeth Range.
