Bezahr (Bazaar)

The man known only by the mononym Bezahr is known to be many different things. He is a draconic sorcerer of significant power, rivaling archmages of the Sages of Skyring, despite his youth. He is the son of Firthir, the previous exemplar of Kafotia and sworn nemesis of the Dwarven Realm. He was once a member of The Royal Court. He was known as both a violent narcissist who solved petty misunderstandings with fire, as well as a compassionate mage who protected innocents from demonic and infernal forces. It's unclear if even Bezahr himself has a clear understanding on who he is, or more importantly, who he wants to be.

Childhood

Born to a casteless Korlechian woman in a small village of casteless in the Korlech Mountains, Bezahr didn't know for much of his childhood that he was sired by one of the most infamous, dangerous creatures to roam the continent of Wulsten. He only knew that his mother told him his father was beautiful, mysterious, wealthy, and promised to return for them one day when the time was right. Before that day could come, Bezahr returned home one day to find his mother beaten to death by the local Sef, who was little more than a bandit chief who collected "dues" from each household in the village. That night, Bezahr's draconic bloodline ignited within him and his sorcerous powers awoke, as he willed flame into being from his hands, incinerating the Sef in the center of town. The townsfolk only had a brief moment of celebration at the death of the cruel thug before Bezahr turned his eldritch flames upon the rest of them.

Teenage Years

As the first golden ray of sunshine peaked through the forest into the charred remains of Bezahr's village, he was discovered alone, weeping, with red scales beginning to peak through his skin. The one who found him was a gold dragon named Alazor, a benevolent dragon who brought the troubled young boy to stay in his cave so he could be taught to control his powers. Alazor could see from the moment they met that Bezahr was the son of none other than Firthir the Terrible. During his tutelage under Alazor, Bezahr also met his father, who resided within a volcano in the Korlech range. Despite having radically differing ideologies, Firthir and Alazor held great respect for each other, and mutually agreed to remain peaceful. With Firthir's blessing, Bezahr continued to study under Alazor, though he also visited with his father on occasion. Determined to see the disturbed yet promising young sorcerer grow into a good person, Alazor tried to instill in him discipline and a sense of care for others. While the shadow of Firthir's evil was weak in Bezahr, and he took well to lessons of benevolence, the wildness of Bezahr's internal flame proved to put him at odds with Alazor, despite his mentorship.

Early Adulthood

Alazor knew that Bezahr had begun to run into a wall of progress. He also knew that Bezahr was not a dragon (however he might wish), and needed more interaction with his own kind, Alazor sent him to stay in Orlec City with The Circle of the Fallen Tower, so that he could learn the danger of his own magic, the importance of not abusing it, and the discipline to wield it for good. However, the Circle found themselves overwhelmed with several arcane crisises, and sought a new mentor for Bezahr. When Rowan Northstar, May Blackblade, and Nora Bennett aided the Circle in the routing of a local Shaxbar cult, Bezahr was sent with them to assist, as the Circle Council thought that an outlet for his violent tendencies would be good. After the cult was routed, the Circle asked the group to remain together so that Bezahr could continue to get practical experience in using magic.

Time With The Royal Court

Bezahr spent about a year with The Royal Court, first routing the remainder of the Shaxbar cultists, assisting with the Royal Curse of Gibble the Good King, and then later on with hunting down the Anchors of Methistoph. Eventually, thanks to the Estrid Blade, the party had begun rapidly discovering the locations of various Anchors, and eventually even came into contact with Bezahr's father Firthir. During this reuinion, Firthir learned that the party was seeking down and destroying Anchors to Methistoph. During a private conversation between the father and son, Firthir tasked Bezahr with keeping the party from bothering him. The Dragon secretly held an Anchor in his possession. While he didn't fear the seemingly puny adventuring party, he did not want to come to blows with his son, nor did he relish the idea of incinerating the adventuring party his son was so fond of.

Betrayal

Eventually, the rest of the party confirmed the fact that Firthir had an Anchor in his possession, and planned to confront him. After asking Bezahr to use his sorcery to teleport them to Firthir's volcano, Bezahr betrayed the party by teleporting them directly above the mouth of the volcano, attempting the drop the party into the lava to die. The party managed to use various means to fly back up to wear Bezahr was, and in an explosive aerial battle in full view of Firthir's servants, Bezahr was captured by the other party members, and subsequently taken back to Rowan's pocket dimension to be imprisoned. Knowing his son had been taken prisoner, Firthir arrived at the village then known as Blackton, where he began razing the homes of the locals in order to draw out the remaining members of The Royal Court. During the ensuing confrontation, Firthir was slain, and Bezahr was then let free. He has not been seen by the other members in 6 years.

Physical Description

Special abilities

As the son of Firthir, Bezahr possesses some of his father's latent potency with fire magic. This latent potency was further enhanced by his father as a reward for aiding him mislead the other members of The Royal Court. Beahr's fire magic is capable of dealing damage to creatures that are normally immune to fire, as well as largely ignoring resistance to fire.

Bezahr's magic largely consists of spells that allow him to summon, manipulate and wield fire, as well as spells that summon elementals. Most prominently utilized among his fire spells is Fireball, followed closely by Flaming Sphere, Burning Hands, Wall of Fire and Fire Snake. His bloodline also means his body contains a dragon heartcore, the source of draconic breath. He is capable of using dragons' breath, though less frequently than dragons are. He has several spells in his repertoire that are more utilitarian in use, notable ones including Teleport, Spell Resistance, Fly, Haste, Slow, and several spells geared towards manipulating enemies in combat. Lastly, he is capable of using his magic to take the form of a dragon. He can change, in theory, into a wide spectrum of dragons, but most commonly chooses the form of a Gold Dragon.

Specialized Equipment

Being an adventurer of significant notoriety, Bezahr is in the possession of several powerful unique items.
  • A Robe of Arcane Heritage that his father had made specifically for him.
  • One of a set of five rings of Elemental Resistance found by The Royal Court. Specifically the topaz one which protects from Electricity.
  • A Staff of Dark Flame, one of the staves marking a Red Orc of the Cohnarak Empire as being a Master.
  • A mysterious metamagic rod of Orcish make, capable of sprouting insectoid limbs and drinking blood.

Social

Contacts & Relations

During his time with the Royal Court, Bezahr became romantically involved with Lady Hyfia, a minor Calshiran noble. She took a liking to Bezahr, at first merely amused by his draconic aspects and the novelty of his sorcerous powers, but with time became deeply infatuated with him due to his impulsive, unpredictable nature.

Social Aptitude

Though clearly possessed of a naturally gifted charisma, Bezahr was not used to reasoning with people logically or appealing to emotion. For whatever reason, Bezahr tends to rely far more on intimidation and lying, rather than using persuasion. Bezahr is also, as is appropriate for someone who is partially dragon, incredibly arrogant. His massive ego leads him to frequently overvalue him when stacking his enemies against him and his allies. He often threatens to resort to violence even when confronted with mundane and minor obstacles.
