Archag Mountains

The Archag Mountains form the upper boundary of the Cohnar Valley. They serve as a natural border for Calshire  and Ishwan  to the North and North-West, and for Ardon and Dornham to the south.

Fauna & Flora

Unlike the Korlech Mountains to the south, there is very little Draconic activity in the Archag, outside of some minor drakes and past incidents of lone dragons taking up residence. One exception to this is the plateau's in the western reaches of the range, bordering Ishwan, which are known to be home to several Blue Dragons.
The Archag in general are home to a good number of mountain trolls, ogres, and yeti.
The high altitude of the mountains means that year round snow caps prevent the growth of most plants other than lichen past a certain point, and below that the flora mostly consists of pine trees and seasonal mountain grasses and flowers. A notable plant that is unique to the region is a root plant called Aea's Thumb. It is a very sweet yam that can be spotted by the white flowers that sprout above it. These flowers can be used in healing poultices.

Natural Resources

The Archag Mountains are the lone place where the ore of the rare Oricalcum metal can be found. This metal has the durability of steel, but is as easy to work as iron. It is also known to hold exceptionally sharp edges without dulling.

History

Long ago, the Archag range once served as the northernmost border to the ancient Empire of the Red Orcs. In those times, the mountains shielded the small, disorganized chiefdoms of humans in modern-day Calshire and Lastrovia, though the Orcs did expand into the wastes that have become Ishwan today. By the end of the Arcane Age, the last remnants of the Empire of the Red Orcs had been pushed into mountain strongholds and warcamps in the Archage Mountains by the advance of humans from the Korlech Mountains. To this day, the descendants of the soldier and worker classes of Orcs live in the Archag Mountains, though Red Orcs haven't been widely sighted since the start of the Regal Age.
