Watchful

"Don't go down that road with me! I know how you really are!"
  His words replayed over and over in her head. She had just been in an argument with him over laundry, and now... Now he was gone. She didn't know what to do. Everything was wrong, nothing made sense anymore. The had been together for 13 years, then he was gone, just like that.
  She realized it when the hit never landed. He had risen his hand to strike her and she cowered like usual, but nothing came. He was just gone. All that was left was a feather. A beautiful, black feather....
  She got up and felt a wave of relief. Then, out of nowhere, that feeling of dread came over her once more. She looked around the trashed apartment twice, before she spotted him in the shadows. His wing moved slightly. The dark figure watched her cautiously. A look of weariness mixed with satisfaction graced his sinful face.
  "He won't hurt you again."
  And with that, the creature was gone.
