The division encounters a strong blocking force on the road to Łódź, deals with it, and secures its positions for the attack on Łódź.
4-12 Cavalry encounter a strong enemy force in Zgierz, a suburb of Łódź, and withdraw. The 256th Mechanized Brigade (Louisiana National Guard) is deployed to assault the position while the recon battalion makes a sweeping counterclockwise maneuver through Koło, Uniejów, Szadek, and Łask to reconnoiter Łódź from the southwest. The 256th captures Zgierz and prisoner interrogation reveals this was the 6th Polish Border Guard Brigade. At the same time, 1st Brigade establishes a divisional base camp at Krośniewice and 2nd Brigade is positioned in Konin, on the Warta River, to guard the flank against any counterattack by the Polish 1st Tank Army, known to be operating near Poznań.
