The Oracles of Bruón

Soooo...   My main idea as it stand now is to have a somewhat theocratic society of people obsessed with building magical monuments that provide bonuses as directed by their Glorious Ruler... someone who lost themselves to magic.   These are humans, for now/ I think, and they might be dissidents from ociphar or some lost tribe of Horomites or Ilmitarians, creating a nation later, and being suuuuper suuuuper isolationist for a few thousand years, settliing an extremely remote part of the world and operating much like a cult. After The big Dragon Tussle, (whatever we are calling that... I need to look it up. Again again,) they were probably dragged into the political sphere partly because of their nation gaining surprising size and wealth by being involved in the background alongside Ociphar and Tletl.     Ok new plan   The Oracles of Bruón stand in the remains of a fallen empire that fought in the wars between the lockren and the sons of Ilmitar and Goshë. At the end of the war the population and might of this empire dwindled until there was thougth to be nothing left but ruins. However, a chosen people of a new god arose from the litter and began to rebuild the strength of the fallen nation.    The nation functions as an ecclesiastic theocracy, with the head priests, the Oracles, acting as the executive, legislative, and judiciary branches of government. They are seen as holy, and as angelic servants of Bruón, the mysterious diety no one else has heard of until their entry into the nations of Ilmitar. They claim divine inspiration, and prophetic insight, and their diplomats often accurately fortell events that are to come when dealing with other nations. As a nation they are certainly the most secretive, and do not engage in virtually any trade with the outside world. They even shun the use of silver steel, and revile the invention (and Horomite inventors) as unholy. They claim no grudge remains of the original nation towards ilmitar and Goshe, but much speculation remains into that.    As of the time of the book, no successful espionage has been completed by members of the Hidden into the country. In addition some magical interference rests over the nation, preventing dragonflight and the flying ships of the Ociphen from soaring over to collect information.      Bruón is the name given to itself of a particularily clever colony of moss, whose true size, knowledge, age, and intentions are unknown. It is a being of vast power, and it amplifies itself by siphoning all the magical potential of the people in its domain. It acts as a great big sponge for magic, and as such, those who live in the nation of  ruins have no magic, and have no idea how to accessit if they left Bruón's domain. Patches or nodes of  Bruón do not need to be connected to himself to be whole. It will often and actively spread iteslf onto various obelisks and holy objects in the ruins, that will be carried to be a remote conduit of Bruón's power.    Years ago, Bruón ensnared the dwindling population of the ruins. Promises of power were given to those who still remembered the empire that came before, and promises of safety and full stomachs enticed the rest. Bruón is not psycic until the first connection is made, touching the tendrils that rise from the moss cover that has come to dominate the ruins. The silver tendrils connect directly to neurons and copy just enough of itself into its new host so that the moss has a permanent telepathic link into the mind of its victim. It then lies dormant analyzing its personality as the connection to the host, and the main consciousness of the parasite become stronger. Victims may experience mild headaches during this time.    In its now several hundred years of human experimentation, Bruón has learned to subtley adjust certain neurotransmitters in the brain to increase its control over the host. This has added to the narrative that it has created of it being a diety. In some aspects, one might argue that it is one since no one knows how to kill it, and it is incredibly powerful.    Bruón is a serious threat to the world of Ilmitar, and may be chosent to be the antagonist of the first book. TBD on that.
