A History of Arion
The Reign of Prince Alaric Arion
SI (11496-11559 CE)
Alaric Arion became the Prince of Arion and head of the new Principality of Arion when he was 33 years old. He was the legitimate son of Lord Anders Arion and illegitimate son of Queen Myria Dell, and nephew by blood of the current King of Delryn, King Karston Dell. Historical accounts vary of how much Anders pressured Karston to ensure Alaric was given the ruling seat of the new Principality, but all agree that his status as Myria's unrecognized son as well as the long devotion of the Arion family to the Dell family played a part. Of the three Arion first cousins of Karston and Myria's generation, Anders was the oldest and split his time between Arion and Delryn after his son received the title. Alaric's uncle Adrian Arion stayed in mainland Delryn, one of Karston's chief military advisors. Their youngest sibling, sister Alma Arion, moved her own family to the new Principality with her nephew.
Alaric was married, and he had one son at the age of 63, Casper Arion, who was his heir.
The Reign of Prince Casper Arion
SI (11559-11585 CE)
Alaric ruled until he was 100, and abdicated in favor of his son who was the same age he had been when he took the throne, 33. However, Casper was universally disliked by his people of Arion as well as the people of Delryn; the Arion family as a whole eventually petitioned the then-Queen of Delryn, Queen Elina Dell, to remove him and she did, replacing him with the very popular scion of Arion house, Helene Arion. As it turns out, Casper hated being a monarch anyway, and was happy to fade into the background.
The Reign of Princess Helene Arion
SI (11585-11689 CE)
Though very young when she took the reins, Princess Helene was incredibly popular with many. She was just barely of age, 21, when Elina agreed to replace Casper and allowed the Arion family to select Helene. She had a long and fruitful reign, abdicating in favor of her only child Halynn Arion at the old age of 125.
The Reign of Princess Halynn Arion
SI (11689-11694 CE)
Halynn took the throne at the age of 50 when her mother abdicated. Just two years after her mother died, Halynn was assasinated just weeks after her long-cousin, King Ivan Dell of Delryn. She ruled for just five years. She had no heirs; Ivan's brother Elliot Dell ascended the Delrynian throne and by law the 2nd heir of Delryn ascended Arion's; but there was no real clear line of succession past Elliot. The choice was between Halynn's cousin Phoebe Arion, or long-cousin in the Arion line Astarel Arion. Elliot and the Arion machine chose Phoebe.
The Reign of Princess Phoebe Arion
SI (11694-11705 CE)
Phoebe was fairly old for a Delrynian or Arion monarch ascending the throne, at 85 years old, but she already was married with a son, Sebastian Arion, and the closer connection back to the Dell line made her the more appealing choice. She passed away at the age of 96, and the throne passed to her son.
The Reign of Prince Sebastian Arion
SI (11705-11792 CE)
Sebastian was 16, nearly the opposite of his mother who had been old for the throne, he was young. For reasons unknown, he did not marry for a long time and did not appoint a proper heir as was custom. When he died at the age of 103, he had just produced an heir, Helene Arion II; she was a year old.
The Reign of Princess Helene Arion II
SI (11792-11793 CE)
Baby Helene's reign was one of the shortest in history; she was named Princess for a year only because that is how long it took the political machine in Delryn and the Arion family to settle on Emeline Arion to replace her. There was a lengthy argument about whether a regent should be appointed instead, but questions about Helene's parentage as well as lingering disatisfaction about Sebastian not choosing and training a proper heir eventually decided it, and Emeline was made Princess in her own right, instead of Regent.
The Reign of Princess Emeline Arion
SI (11793-11842 CE]
Emeline adapted quickly to ruling and was fair, just, and well-liked, if not particularly memorable. She adopted Helene into her household, along with a few other Arion children. When she passed away at the age of 116, her son Alaric Arion II was already married to Jude Dell, ruler of Delryn, and they were expecting their first child; so the Arion throne was once again sort of up for grabs. Helene was finally coming of mature age, however, so she was appointed to the throne.
The Second Reign of Princess Helene Arion II
SI (11842-11881 CE]
Helene accepted the throne and ruled until she was 90, but proved to be incapable of having children of her own. With the blessing of his parents, she chose Alaric II's son Karston Dell II to follow her, as his older sister, Margaret Dell II, was heir to the Delrynian throne.
The Reign of Prince Karston Arion
SI (11881-11970 CE)
Fairly young, Karston was 26 when Helene abdicated in his favor. He took the Arion throne with the blessing of his parents and his sister, and changed his name to Karston Arion to honor that side of his family. He had several children but his heir was his daughter, Clarissa Arion. He lived until 124, but gave up the throne to Clarissa when he was 115.
The Reign of Princess Clarissa Arion
SI (11970-12040 CE)
Princess Clarissa saw the growing threat of the The Brilliant Empire, and was the first ruler of Arion to take action that wasn't just depending on and trusting Delryn to keep the peace or protect its vassal state. She fostered her younger son, Julian Arion, to the Emphir's household under the rule of Hesna Talat. Her oldest son, Alaric Arion III, would be her heir in Arion.
The Reign of Prince Alaric Arion III
SI (12040 CE)
Alaric the third took over for his mother when she turned 100, as ideal in Delryn and Arion.Table of Contents
