Atlas Military

The World's Police

Introduction

The Premier fighting force around the world, even though they must go up against the Whitecliffe Military. They are the Largest and strongest army in the world as a whole, with hundreds of thousands of soldiers spread across the world, providing defence services to millions. This force has been fighting Grimm for the last 80 years and while their experience varies from their Whitecliffe counterparts.   They had overseen a comparatively flawless period of peace since the Great War, Fighting the Faunus Liberation War and winning militarily against the F.L.R when all other armies floundered or failed—proudly having claimed a part of lost Astora at paladin's Point. The Atlas Military is seen as humanity's Hammer against the Grimm which could never fail in its Crusade against all that would threaten to return this world back to the void.

Composition

Manpower

The Military is able to recruit from nearly all  of the nations of the world. At the moment the Atlas Military is reported to have 3,765,231 Million active personnel. They have hundreds of thousands of vehicle assets and covet the world with their service. Effectively serving as the world police.    For Comparison our World's U.S Military has 1,376,658 Active Personnel and is ranked 3rd in the world's largest armies.

Equipment

Soldiers wear Combat Armour and AR Combat helms, they are often working in large squads and each squad has a variety of weapons. All soldiers have standardized equipment with little variation, variation is spared for special units and forces like the Atlas Jumpers. Soldiers move in large formations in large seas of white that make it hard to focus on anything and does make for one hell of a threatening show of force.   So long as the army they're fighting isn't themselves highly disciplined and fearless. The lack of Camo makes it really easy to spot Atlas Soldiers which has made them easy pickings for SDC PMC's and Whitecliffe forces in engagements. The White Fang also love the fact they have no camo, the idea clearly has it's short comings.
What the Atlas Jumper tends to look like, they are Quick Assault Teams that normally drop grenades with grenade launchers and suppressive fire with LMGs. They can also use Swords and hammers to engage with Grimm and use their packs to escape or gain an edge on Grimm.

Weaponry

Outside of the typical Rifles you see soldiers use they also have a wide array of Handguns, shotguns, Missile Launchers, grenade launchers, lots of attachments and of course their own batons and swords. The 357 HECU is a popular choice for field officers as it has commanding presence and a loud thud when it shoots that'll strike fear in insubordinate soldiers in times of need. Soldiers do have to deal with standardization however.   That means if they're Ill equipped, they just have to shut up and deal with it.

Vehicles

Atlas has a more narrow selection of vehicles when it comes to land, using Vehicles like the Bullhead APC to get around and do some damage but the APC's are underwhelming when comapred to Whitecliffe's in the sheer damage they can output but these ones are 3X as fast so make up for it in speed.
The Atlas Paladin has replaced all other mechs and has completely replaced treaded tanks, even to the protest of some. The Atlas Paladin is a highly versatile and fast heavy Mech that can deliver devastating amounts of damage onto Grimm and enemy combatants with a lot of the state of the art systems such as APS, Motion sensors and what not but lack the booster packs that the Allstriker Mechs used to have.   Paladins can also wrestle with large Grimm but some have outlined problems with this choice as Grimm seem to still overpower the mech most of the time and the mechs have problems with enemies disabling their legs and tipping Paladins over due how top heavy they are and how much it depends on it's legs. The Mech also has troubles in Urban environments thanks to the missing boosters meaning combatants can shoot down at paladin from towers and it can't do much outside of leaving or hunkering down.   Despite the short comings the sheer number of weapons the Paladin can field is ridiculous and when allowed to thrive can and will take down 100's of Grimm within seconds. It also has a extremely powerful Shielding unit, allowing it to deploy hasty cover for soldiers and the Shielding Units actually work really well. The Mech also keeps it's pilots safer, even though it was a stolen prototype. Roman Torchwick was not killed when his paladin was destroyed, this is thanks to heavy force suspension plates in the cockpit thus saving the need to replace Mech Pilots when they die.
There is a much shorter mech, the Atlas Vanguard. This Mech is roughly the size of A man and a half, these light mechs serve the same purpose as the Atlas Liberator but do so with a lighter frame that some argue are too lightly armoured in certain spots. All the same the Vanguard is a good inbetweener from a Soldier to a Paladin. Often following squads and providing heavy support as wel las using their shield units in their arms to project hard light shields that can defend from projectiles and Grimm alike.   Vanguards also come with SAM pods sometimes allowing them to provide on the spot Artillery support. Generals have generally favoured using Vanguards over the Paladins with some agitating for the return of Tanks and to focus resources on the Atlas Vanguard Program to fine tune it and turn it into the main Mech Unit of the military.

Structure

Atlas has a strict Command Structure, Unlike Whitecliffe you are expected to obey the authority of your Superiors without question or delay. General Ironwood, as Secretary of Defense is the absolute head of the entire military and commands all forces with unquestionable authority. The ranking structure is as follows.   Secretary of Defense - Absolute Leader and sometimes called High Commander   High General - 2nd in Command of the Army   High Admiral - 2nd in Command of the Navy (Navy includes the Airforce)   General - leads an Army of soldiers, composed of multiple battalions   Fleet Captain - Handles their specific fleet   First Lieutenant - Both in the Army and Navy, normally a fair few of them and act as CO's   Supply Lieutenant - Heads Logistics   Lieutenant - A Lower level CO, usually considered annoying.   Captain - An shared rank, means for the Navy that you control the ship you are assigned to but for the Army you're the actual lower level CO and have more field experience.   Master Sergeant - Army Rank, leads Squads of soldiers in the field and is the rank just below CO, meaning they're the highest level NCO.   First Mate - NCO Level Ship Official   Supply Officer - An NCO level Logistics Official.   Sergeant - Army Rank, Heads a Squad of soldiers.   Sailor First Class - Handles a specific task force, like a maintenance crew, Torpedo crew and what not.   Corporal - Team leader, handles fire teams and is a Army Rank   Private First Class - Army Rank, a Soldier who is performing well enough to potentially become Corporal or Sergeant.   Private - Army Rank, A Soldier, could be literally anything.   Sailor - Crew Member   Recruit - Shared rank, self explanatory   Given that the Command Structure is so rigid, there is obvious glaring flaws. While it is true that Atlas soldiers will probably do almost anything you order them too, they lack a special kind of initiative that Whitecliffe Troopers, Whitefang Insurgents and Hunters generally have. If the Command Hierarchy breaks down, Atlas soldiers will only continue their last orders and struggle to generate their own objectives.   This can be a problem in Non Grimm orientated conflicts and one that was a huge issue during their war with the F.L.R but Ironwood's sheer competence in the war managed to excuse this giant glaring achilleas heel.

Tactics

Mass Deployment, Shock and Awe, Blitzkrieg   The 3 big main phrases that underpins Atlas' strategy. While Whitecliffe depends on unique squads, highly skilled operators and Defeat in Detail. The Atlas military prefers to swarm their enemy with pure chaos as thousands of soldiers move up escorted by Mechs and supported by giant floating artillery batteries in giant dramatic human wave attacks. This is seen as force equalization with Grimm.   The Grimm cannot overpower soldiers if there are hundreds of them firing in organized platoons and mechanized units laying down suppressive fire in highly concentrated fields of fire. Atlas has large bombastic defenses like continental wide trench lines. Giant imposing mountain fortresses. Dramatic oversized cannon batteries reigning death upon huge stretches of fields.   As you might expect, Infantry are integral to Atlas, Infantry are everything. They'll field huge robotic and organic armies and depend on them to hold positions rather then using massive amount of vehicles like Whitecliffe does.

Training

All soldiers, Pilots and Sailors are trained in their own versions of boot camp and get around 8-10 weeks of boot camp before you get pressed into service, soldiers do not choose their roles but rather are selected based on their performance and background. To remain professional soldiers drill fairly often but the sheer number of engagements sometimesl essens the amount of required drilling but some generals can be unforgiving.

The typical Atlas Soldier wears Combat Armour with an AR Combat Helm (AR stands for Augmented Reality). Unlike Whtiecliffe, Atlas' soldiers do not wear camo and instead wear dark fatigues and white armour with colour streaks. The look is reminiscent of Stormtroopers or perhaps clone troopers from star wars. These Soldiers carry many different types of guns unlike in the main timeline and are more varied and well-trained.
Rather than the Hyper Robust Ground forces of Whitecliffe, Atlas prefers massive Fleets of ships to deploy large numbers of forces quickly, using Gunships, jets and VTOLs to lay down the pain on the enemy. Their Thunderhawk Airships come with Laser Cannons, Autocannon batteries and Missile pods. Atlas fleets normally have 40 Airships with hundreds of aircraft between them all that give the Atlas Military Maximum reach.
Atlas Soldiers are constantly tasked with Police Work and Guard Duty, there are problems with this as Atlas Soldiers are known to follow orders to the letter and be rough with civilians and sometimes end up shooting people where they should not. Atlas Soldiers aren't Inhumane but rather their training turns them into highly regimented Killers and not the ideal civil servants yet all the same, they are tasked with their duties and will fulfil them with absolute dedication and no questions.   Even if they're asked to do something unethical.
Atlas Academy maintains its own Combat Information Centre, however, the majority of Outbound Atlas Operations are handled by the Octagon. The Academy CIC is explicitly dedicated to Defensive Combat Operations for Atlas City and Mantle, the latter half leaving much to be desired.
The Atlassian Knight-200 is the latest and Greatest of Atlas Combat Bots, while Whitecliffe combat bots are free thinking, the AK-200 has zero free will and obeys a set of highly sophisticated combat protocols and can use a wide array of weapons. The Bot can also take a severe beating and continue operation, unlike the AK-130. These bots are designed to take the risks the Atlas Soldiers can't or won't.   However, their ability to kill Grimm has been somewhat...disappointing.
The Falcon Jet is the main Jet Fighter of the Atlas Airforce, it has been known to fly in high orbit and deliver devastating blows against Grimm. They're not as diverse as Whitecliffe's jet fighters but they're known as reliable all-rounders that have served faithfully in the last 20 years despite some trying to decommission them and depend entirely on the Atlas Manta ships.
The military has many Generals but -The- General is General ironwood who serves as secretary of Defense and headmaster, owning two seats on the Atlas Council. Ironwood wasn't always the big leader but it is certainly easy to feel as though he is the only leader. He has been the major deciding factor in almost every Military policy since the SDC got him the secretary position after the Faunus Liberation War.   That said, there are many other generals who dissent against him, the key of which is General Gold who leads his forces to protect Vale and then Mistral after the Battle of Beacon. Still despite this detention, few violate Ironwood's Orders. For all intents and purposes, he is the sole, unquestionable authority of the entire organization. Leading many to nearly worship the man as the single greatest military genius the world has ever known, even if his record isn't particularly more impressive than any other high-performing CO.
After the Battle of Beacon, the Department of Cyber Affairs was created in order to maintain Network security, and keep the many robots of the army under control, fearing a possible A.I Revolution against the Kingdom. Despite the Department's existence, it's still young and there are many vulnerabilities that must be closed before someone else cripples all of Atlas with but a press of a Button.   As such, the Marigolds and the Slynch Families pool a lot of investment into the Program, with Ironwood donating a portion of his personal wealth to ensure that the Department continues to develop and secure the network. Their failure to do this beforehand has created a lot of doubt in Schnee Robotics who denied any rumours of the Atlas Knights being hacked and sometimes are bold enough to imply the General himself gave bad orders which resulted in the AI killing organics.   The Government broadly blames unnamed free AI and somewhat blames Whitecliffe for the security breach.
Specialists are Military Hunters who serve Atlas, this is the common outcome of Hunter Trainees within Atlas. Winter is especially prevalent because she is the -single- highest-performing Huntress to ever come out of Atlas Academy. This is why she is the face of the Program and the General's Right hand. Specialists are entrusted with command and often end up being in the command hierarchy.   As such, the Academy basically acts like an Officer School, with Hunters within it learning Strategy, tactics and Command. Every general is pretty much a specialist at some point, meaning the End point of Winter's career is to herself be a general and given her closeness to Ironwood, some say she is to be the future Secretary of Defense, a job few specialists really envy, partly out of hero worship of Ironwood which is incredibly potent in the Specialist Program but also a nervousness that no one else could control such a vast organization.   Ace Ops are also members of the Specialist Program, and so are Neon Cat and Flynt Coal who were high-performing Specialists in their grade.
A lot of people mock the Nubuck Guard but they're a relic of the Pre-Ironwood Atlas Military if anyone could believe it. In past times, the military had an even more ridiculous and uptight attitude. These were not always the Uniforms but Nubuck Uniforms were good examples of Early Post War Uniforms. The World was coming down from times of war so most armed forces took up fancy uniforms with mobility and flexibility not factored in.    Cordova often keeps a surviving Garrison of the vaunted Guards as a part of the Base Garrison but they often parade around and promote Atlassian Patriotism rather than being combat effective soldiers. Outside of Argus, there are very few instances of Nubuck Guards, often guarding areas of incredible national importance and are the main ceremonial guard of the Vytal International Forum.
The Atlas Military is among the few militarised forces with the use of the WMDs, specifically the Direwulf Mk.2 Mega Dust Bomb. The Missile is an intercontinental Weapon and when fired, burrows onto the ground and detonates all nearby Dust veins simultaneously with highly volatile dust. The Explosive Power of the Direwulf is comparable to the real-world Tsar Bomba. The Direwulf's purpose is absolute and undeniable mass destruction.   If Remnant was ever lost to Humanity, there will be no Remnant at all.
There is also the Scatter Strike Dust WMD, the Scatter Strike sprays highly volatile Dust particles across wide regions of land. The Air is filled with toxic vapours that'll kill anything in the lungs. The Ground will quake and shatter with hyper-explosive dust crystals scattered everywhere causing subsequent explosions in a daisy chain of mass destruction. Not only will the Underground veins explode but so will any surface veins.    Just in case anything could survive the blast, the primary explosion is a Thermonuclear Reaction, instantly vapourising anything in the immediate blast radius. The Missile explodes in the air so that way the Radius is many miles larger. After a detonation, the land is highly radioactive and full of hyper-reactive dust crystals and particles. Along with radioactive dust, the dust particles in the air will literally shred your lungs because they're so fine and damage your skin.    The Bomb like the Direwulf is designed to kill as many things as physically possible.
