Atlas Military
The World's Police
Introduction
The Premier fighting force around the world, even though they must go up against the Whitecliffe Military. They are the Largest and strongest army in the world as a whole, with hundreds of thousands of soldiers spread across the world, providing defence services to millions. This force has been fighting Grimm for the last 80 years and while their experience varies from their Whitecliffe counterparts. They had overseen a comparatively flawless period of peace since the Great War, Fighting the Faunus Liberation War and winning militarily against the F.L.R when all other armies floundered or failed—proudly having claimed a part of lost Astora at paladin's Point. The Atlas Military is seen as humanity's Hammer against the Grimm which could never fail in its Crusade against all that would threaten to return this world back to the void.Composition
Manpower
The Military is able to recruit from nearly all of the nations of the world. At the moment the Atlas Military is reported to have 3,765,231 Million active personnel. They have hundreds of thousands of vehicle assets and covet the world with their service. Effectively serving as the world police.
For Comparison our World's U.S Military has 1,376,658 Active Personnel and is ranked 3rd in the world's largest armies.
Equipment
Soldiers wear Combat Armour and AR Combat helms, they are often working in large squads and each squad has a variety of weapons. All soldiers have standardized equipment with little variation, variation is spared for special units and forces like the Atlas Jumpers. Soldiers move in large formations in large seas of white that make it hard to focus on anything and does make for one hell of a threatening show of force.
So long as the army they're fighting isn't themselves highly disciplined and fearless. The lack of Camo makes it really easy to spot Atlas Soldiers which has made them easy pickings for SDC PMC's and Whitecliffe forces in engagements. The White Fang also love the fact they have no camo, the idea clearly has it's short comings.
What the Atlas Jumper tends to look like, they are Quick Assault Teams that normally drop grenades with grenade launchers and suppressive fire with LMGs. They can also use Swords and hammers to engage with Grimm and use their packs to escape or gain an edge on Grimm.
Weaponry
Outside of the typical Rifles you see soldiers use they also have a wide array of Handguns, shotguns, Missile Launchers, grenade launchers, lots of attachments and of course their own batons and swords. The 357 HECU is a popular choice for field officers as it has commanding presence and a loud thud when it shoots that'll strike fear in insubordinate soldiers in times of need. Soldiers do have to deal with standardization however.
That means if they're Ill equipped, they just have to shut up and deal with it.
Vehicles
Atlas has a more narrow selection of vehicles when it comes to land, using Vehicles like the Bullhead APC to get around and do some damage but the APC's are underwhelming when comapred to Whitecliffe's in the sheer damage they can output but these ones are 3X as fast so make up for it in speed.
The Atlas Paladin has replaced all other mechs and has completely replaced treaded tanks, even to the protest of some. The Atlas Paladin is a highly versatile and fast heavy Mech that can deliver devastating amounts of damage onto Grimm and enemy combatants with a lot of the state of the art systems such as APS, Motion sensors and what not but lack the booster packs that the Allstriker Mechs used to have.
Paladins can also wrestle with large Grimm but some have outlined problems with this choice as Grimm seem to still overpower the mech most of the time and the mechs have problems with enemies disabling their legs and tipping Paladins over due how top heavy they are and how much it depends on it's legs. The Mech also has troubles in Urban environments thanks to the missing boosters meaning combatants can shoot down at paladin from towers and it can't do much outside of leaving or hunkering down.
Despite the short comings the sheer number of weapons the Paladin can field is ridiculous and when allowed to thrive can and will take down 100's of Grimm within seconds. It also has a extremely powerful Shielding unit, allowing it to deploy hasty cover for soldiers and the Shielding Units actually work really well. The Mech also keeps it's pilots safer, even though it was a stolen prototype. Roman Torchwick was not killed when his paladin was destroyed, this is thanks to heavy force suspension plates in the cockpit thus saving the need to replace Mech Pilots when they die.
There is a much shorter mech, the Atlas Vanguard. This Mech is roughly the size of A man and a half, these light mechs serve the same purpose as the Atlas Liberator but do so with a lighter frame that some argue are too lightly armoured in certain spots. All the same the Vanguard is a good inbetweener from a Soldier to a Paladin. Often following squads and providing heavy support as wel las using their shield units in their arms to project hard light shields that can defend from projectiles and Grimm alike.
Vanguards also come with SAM pods sometimes allowing them to provide on the spot Artillery support. Generals have generally favoured using Vanguards over the Paladins with some agitating for the return of Tanks and to focus resources on the Atlas Vanguard Program to fine tune it and turn it into the main Mech Unit of the military.
Structure
Atlas has a strict Command Structure, Unlike Whitecliffe you are expected to obey the authority of your Superiors without question or delay. General Ironwood, as Secretary of Defense is the absolute head of the entire military and commands all forces with unquestionable authority. The ranking structure is as follows.
Secretary of Defense - Absolute Leader and sometimes called High Commander
High General - 2nd in Command of the Army
High Admiral - 2nd in Command of the Navy (Navy includes the Airforce)
General - leads an Army of soldiers, composed of multiple battalions
Fleet Captain - Handles their specific fleet
First Lieutenant - Both in the Army and Navy, normally a fair few of them and act as CO's
Supply Lieutenant - Heads Logistics
Lieutenant - A Lower level CO, usually considered annoying.
Captain - An shared rank, means for the Navy that you control the ship you are assigned to but for the Army you're the actual lower level CO and have more field experience.
Master Sergeant - Army Rank, leads Squads of soldiers in the field and is the rank just below CO, meaning they're the highest level NCO.
First Mate - NCO Level Ship Official
Supply Officer - An NCO level Logistics Official.
Sergeant - Army Rank, Heads a Squad of soldiers.
Sailor First Class - Handles a specific task force, like a maintenance crew, Torpedo crew and what not.
Corporal - Team leader, handles fire teams and is a Army Rank
Private First Class - Army Rank, a Soldier who is performing well enough to potentially become Corporal or Sergeant.
Private - Army Rank, A Soldier, could be literally anything.
Sailor - Crew Member
Recruit - Shared rank, self explanatory
Given that the Command Structure is so rigid, there is obvious glaring flaws. While it is true that Atlas soldiers will probably do almost anything you order them too, they lack a special kind of initiative that Whitecliffe Troopers, Whitefang Insurgents and Hunters generally have. If the Command Hierarchy breaks down, Atlas soldiers will only continue their last orders and struggle to generate their own objectives.
This can be a problem in Non Grimm orientated conflicts and one that was a huge issue during their war with the F.L.R but Ironwood's sheer competence in the war managed to excuse this giant glaring achilleas heel.
Tactics
Mass Deployment, Shock and Awe, Blitzkrieg
The 3 big main phrases that underpins Atlas' strategy. While Whitecliffe depends on unique squads, highly skilled operators and Defeat in Detail. The Atlas military prefers to swarm their enemy with pure chaos as thousands of soldiers move up escorted by Mechs and supported by giant floating artillery batteries in giant dramatic human wave attacks. This is seen as force equalization with Grimm.
The Grimm cannot overpower soldiers if there are hundreds of them firing in organized platoons and mechanized units laying down suppressive fire in highly concentrated fields of fire. Atlas has large bombastic defenses like continental wide trench lines. Giant imposing mountain fortresses. Dramatic oversized cannon batteries reigning death upon huge stretches of fields.
As you might expect, Infantry are integral to Atlas, Infantry are everything. They'll field huge robotic and organic armies and depend on them to hold positions rather then using massive amount of vehicles like Whitecliffe does.
Training
All soldiers, Pilots and Sailors are trained in their own versions of boot camp and get around 8-10 weeks of boot camp before you get pressed into service, soldiers do not choose their roles but rather are selected based on their performance and background. To remain professional soldiers drill fairly often but the sheer number of engagements sometimesl essens the amount of required drilling but some generals can be unforgiving.
