Were-Sharks

Kings of tribal warfare, thriving in the chaos of natural disasters and human conflict, the Weresharks have done quite well for themselves over the past hundred years.   As one of the only major undersea races whose population relies on passing on a disease, their ecology is quite unique. They have two ‘acceptable’ ways of expanding their clans. The first is via ‘bargain’, offering to save fallen pirates and sailors from their sinking ships by turning them. As the victims are consumed if they refuse, this is often referred to ‘if you can’t eat them, join them’. The second method is via ‘ceremony’, a sacrament of respect and honor, offered only to the most worthy humanoids found upon their travels.   With the rise of piracy around Plumo, the Weresharks’ food supply and potential pool of kindred lycanthropes has exploded. They play no favorites among the oversea races, nor do they shy away from making good, entertaining trades when it suits their mood. The world is their playground, after all.   Only their highly tribal nature has kept them from uniting to challenge the authority of the other undersea races. With over a dozen major tribes and twice that many minor tribes scattered all over Plumo’s oceans and major lakes, all with different priorities and concerns, it isn’t likely that these barbarians of the water will make any major plays for power any time soon. But they are opportunists. So the next time a world-shaking event happens, expect them to be there to take what they can, and feed upon the rest.
