Sea Elves
The emergence of the Sea Elves as one of the dominant races in Plumo’s seas was a slow and cautious one. Since perhaps a thousand years prior to The Great Fall, the standoffish aquatic elves made minor moves to secure their role in undersea society. But unlike their more gregarious Merfolk counterparts, the Sea Elves had a very different message to spread.
Firm believers in the separation of over and undersea matters, the Sea Elves took every opportunity to cast themselves as superior to the pure air breathers up above. They pointed out the racial and religious wars that plagued humanity. They used the fate of the Gnomish culture as an oft-repeated warning to other races, so that they would not become entangled in the affairs of humans and their empires and their gods.
All the while, they built up the greatest fully organized standing army under the sea. Built to take and hold territory, that was exactly what they did. The area around the ruins of Nautilus became their largest city, as well as their most formidable training camp. Although prepared for incursions from the other undersea races, their weapons and tactics were primarily aimed against humanity and other surface dwellers.
Outposts include a major fortified area along the steep northern edge of The Deep Point, called simply Shield. The Sea Elves maintain that diving into such dangerous places for either wealth or sport is inviting disaster. They claim to have ‘contingency plans’ in place should foolish adventurers or expeditions release something from the briny depths that the world is not prepared for.
