Merfolk

It was quite a surprise when The Great Fall favored the relatively intellectual and spiritual Merfolk race over the aggressive and territorial Weresharks. But their ability to harness the incredible amount of rich soil that cascaded down from the shattered fourth continent was second to none. Merfolk farms, domesticated fish colonies, and sprawling cities quickly covered the entirety of the Azu. They were quickly able to feed all of the friendly races with ease… and given their rapid and capable expansion, just about everyone wanted to be friendly.   Their friendly domination over the Azu was a boon for every race willing to cooperate. The building of magic schools and temples over the past 150 years nearly tripled, as the Merfolk leveraged their natural advantage to function both above and below the water. Providing fish and seaweed for entire human coastal communities meant they had access to vast amounts of milled stone, gravel, and anything else they needed to create a sophisticated infrastructure.   The Merfolk spread beyond the boundaries of the Azu, becoming the number one provisioner for Divers of the Deep Point and underwater imitari hunters alike. Their magical smiths, while not exactly legendary, were able to produce the kinds of minor magical weapons and charms that could often mean the difference between life and death in such high stakes adventuring.   By taking advantage of every possible edge that world events brought along, the Merfolk positioned themselves as the most relevant race in Plumo’s depths for years to come.
