Half Elves
Though the first two major races are the bulk of civilized society by far, the third most populous race is the half-elves. Their versatility and inherent fae advantages gave them a leg up as the traditional elven empire began to fall.
It was inevitable that the younger generation of elves abandons the dying empires of their forefathers. They found families among the humans, who seemed determined to survive in spite of the devastation that the Great Fall cast down upon Plumo. The generation sought out more like themselves or encouraged even more pureblood elves to leave their traditional homes and explore the world with them. It helps that they tend to be seen as charming and exotic by so many other races… they often have their choice of mates.
By and large, half-elves have taken over territories traditionally held by their elven forefathers. This means they are mostly located in the northern continent, particularly towards the center in and around The Great Lake. They’ve taken control of the major public schools of magic, sometimes as teachers, but often as caretakers and administrators. The gateway to formal mythical education is usually via half-elven society.
Though half-elves don’t have a lot of leadership positions outside of local councils and senates, they have a massive number of advisory positions and ambassadorships. In some ways, they act as the power behind the throne, even at the highest levels of government and religion. They’re also seen as less of a seafaring race, and ‘safe’ to deal with as they’re unlikely to be competitive on the open water.
