Gnomes
Seen by many in the surface world as a ‘failed race’, nothing could be further from the truth. The engineering masters of Plumo have slowly, quietly disappeared under the waves over the last several hundred years.
You see… they have a plan.
The Gnomes are mortgaging their futures. They think that the glory of ancient domed cities and airtight submarines aren’t just a thing of the past. In fact, they believe that it may be the only future that the surface dwellers have on Plumo. They know that the world is completely helpless to a Second Great Fall. And then a Third.
Although they have no way to stop future catastrophic stellar events (which they’re convinced were just as intentional as The Year of Darkness), they can do everything possible to restore the technology that they had in the days of the Great Undersea Alliance. To that end, they’ve sold everything: Their ancestral homes, their valuables, businesses, even scientific knowledge that they once kept secret.
Umbora became the new home for most of the Gnomish race. With their traditional allies such as the Sea Elves rejecting them outright as ‘outlanders’, and with the Tritons in no real position to provide aid, they needed new allies. The Genasi were sympathetic and brokered a deal with a most unusual civilization: The Selkies. In exchange for additional protection from the ever-hungry Weresharks, the Selkie nation made their primary migratory grounds in and around Umbora. They were more than happy to provide their new, and well-armed, friends transport back and forth to the artificially domed city.
