Knights of Kavanaugh

The Knights of Kavanaugh are a secretive organization that holds roots in almost 10,000 years of history. At one point in time they had formidable armies of superior soldiers. These armies were first formed and fought against Sereptra, the Great Betrayer and his foul beasts. It wasn't until the order began to notice other alien meddling on the world of Mythris. Uncovering evidence of things far away that threaten the very existence of the planet and all life on it. These monsters were concluded to be unable to enter the material plane, albeit one specific creature. This entity lived in the shadows, able to assume any form imaginable, and others utterly horrific.   Over the years, the order dwindled as they were unable to continue payment to its members which at the time were little more than mercenaries. All the while, dozens of cults dedicated to the entity and its family arose across every country in the world. The most dedicated of the order recognized the threat of these cults and began to purposely shrink the order to a manageable number. The once thousands strong battalions of warriors shrunk to a presumed 1,000 warriors. For millennia they fought the cults, collecting powerful artifacts and weapons along the way. Eventually, their mission was recognized by the heavens themselves, with celestial creatures even entering the ranks of the order to fight alongside mortality.   However, due to the passage of time and zealous secrecy of the Knights, the order continued to shrink. Unable to replenish their ranks, and with each passing year less news of the cults due to them being hunted by the order, the celestial entities left the ranks and back to the heavens. Still though, the knights begged for aid, knowing that the cults are still alive and well, just hidden with more tenacity. They petitioned to monarchs around the world to listen to their words, yet they fell on deaf ears and scoffs. Knowing the Knights had limited decades before they would be reduced to nothing but forgotten history, they became desperate.   Using their vast millennia of gathered knowledge and ancient lore, they began to conjure a plan to personally speak to the gods and ask for a way to continue the fight at any cost. They spent years collecting the items to complete the ritual, until one day they attempted to reach to the heavens. Sometime around -5,200, they were answered by a strange woman. The Witch Queen herself, Wee-Jas. They begged her for wisdom and the will to continue to fight the cults, stating that they were desperate and willing to try whatever it takes. Wee-Jas was impressed with the tenacity of the mortal Knights and was gleeful at their stoic demeanor. She agreed, but gave the Knights one final warning. Should they take her gift and power, they will never know the cool breeze of a spring day, the taste of a fine wine, or the love of those they deem to protect ever again. The Knights agreed, seeing it as their duty to disregard their own pleasure for the safety of the world.   Thus, from that day on, the Knights have been blessed and cursed with immortality granted by vamparism. However, this form of vamparism wasn't the curse that ails others, the Knights were blessed with never craving to give in to the darker side of undeath. Since then, the Knights have lived on and fought the most secretive war in the history of the world, and its said to this day that if one searches hard enough, you can be blessed to enter the ranks of the Knights of Kavanaugh.   The Knights maintain hundreds of safe houses throughout the world, all hidden in elaborate ways, some even in plain sight. In more recent years, they have made themselves know to a few select monarchs around the world, such as King Alexander Hollyroot, and King Cormyr Cassinian. Who both have helped the Knights maintain their presence in their kingdoms.
