Major language groups and dialects

The Yatoh speak a wide range of variations of the Yatoh language all descended from a common early language. The most common variations are the Nanji and the Murian languages that are spoken in the respective kingdoms, while on the Chidai islands they speak different insular variations that are harder to understand for the Yatoh living on the continent. These languages are mostly mutually intelligible, however when nobles and leaders from different kingdoms communicate in official situations, in order to avoid misunderstandigs they speak in the early Yatoh lagnuage that is the same in every reagion and known almost exclusively by highly educated Yatoh people.

Shared customary codes and values

The Yatoh have a strict moral code that rules every people's everyday life, from the simple paysant to the high nobles. For example eye contact between strangers is highly frowned upon and unnecessarily speaking to people outside their own community or social circle can be punished. Due to this strict rule, for non-Yatoh people it is almost impossible to communicate with the Yatoh outside commercial or diplomatic exchanges.

Art & Architecture

Yatoh people are famous for being dedicated to art and poetry. The peculiar beauty of their paintings, ceramics and other decorative objects are well appreciated by nobles from many reigns who strive to buy the most impressive pieces of art to show off in public. Thanks to their artistic export, the Yatoh people could keep good relationships with their neighbors.

Common Myths and Legends

According to the legends, the Yatoh people are born from the eggs of Ronran, a legendary figure similar to a golden dragon which is said to have divine powers. After the birth of the Yatoh, an ancient artifact, a sculpture of Ronran made in aurock (a rare transparent rock with yellow colors) was then created as a demonstration of its excistence. Now, the statue is in possession of the Nanji, who believe to be the elected part of the Yatoh people. As the Murian also believe to be the elected ones and not the Nanji, the possession of the artifact is the reason of a fierce and century-old rivalry between the two kingdoms.
