Thropians

The Thropians, sometimes called Werepeople or Halfpeople (the latter is derogatory) are a race of beings who live on the Islands of Kracon. They have the ability to change their bodies into those of beasts, in exchange for their lifeblood. As a consequence of this ability, the Thropians are the shortest-lived of the beings, reaching 80 with a normal lifestyle, and perhaps 100 with the proper medical care and good luck.

The Thropians are, by and large, staunch members of the Sacred League of Xuanteng, though some heritages, namely the balenthropes, or the whale people, are more disconnected and manly interact with outsiders through the merpeople.

History

The earliest records of Thropians living in proper settlements is an ancient written scroll kept by the Long dragons in the Imperial Library. It states that, as told by the Elemental Spirit of the Waters, the Thropians had settled in small communities based upon their heritage. The felithropes lived together, as did the lycanthropes, the serpenthropes, the cervithropes, etc. The Spirit recounts that, ‘each community has their own tradition, for they are all good at different things. The Wolves train to fight with claw and fang, the Cats learn to hunt in the center of the Night, the Deer weave thread among their great antlers, the Snakes care for the young of all.’
After the Descending of the Light, the Soul Dragons helped guide the Thropians into a more centralized society with the rest of the future Confederation. They began to live in bigger communities, and cross-heritage families were born. The avithropes in particular helped connect traditional predator-and-prey communities, such as the serpenthropes and the musenthropes. As the Soul Dragons slowly Altered themselves into the Long Dragons, and the Confederation of the Stars was founded, the Thropians embraced this new community. The lycanthropes became the foremost warriors of the Confederation, and, together with the Foxes, the felithropes produced much of the textiles in the Islands.
