Cixrith

Overview

The city of Cixrith is a port-city on the shores of Lake Aquia on the continent of Lyardia. It is currently ruled by the Kingdom of Raicuth, but has a history of interchangeably being an independent city-state and a thorn in the side of every ruler who has claimed it. The name is a bastardization of ‘chik-xit’, meaning six-rings, an old name for the ships of the City of Flickering Lights, which had six metal rings that served as the foundation for the vessel.

Demographics

Classes

The vast majority of the people of Cixrith are considered middle-class or lower by the Royal Census. At the last census of 1050, there were roughly 100,000 works-people, 75,000 shops-people, 10,000 military & guards-people, 10,000 homeless works-people, 7,000 Royal workers, 3,000 artisans, 500 nobles, and 20,000 non-legal working residents, including beggars and criminals.

Districts

The City of Red Gold is divided into three zones of control: the Crimson Leviathan claim, the Prisame Family claim, and the neutral territory.

The Crimson Leviathan Claim

The parts of the city claimed by the pirate crew called the Crimson Levithan include the harbor, the tavern district, and the food storehouses. You can always tell when you enter their claim, as every building under their control flys the banner of the red whale.

The Prisame Family Claim

The parts of the city claimed by the crime syndicate called the Prisame Family include the dry goods/tonauk market, the vice district, and the inn district. You can distinguish the Prisame claim from the others by the colorfully painted doors.

The Neutral Districts

After the Leviathans and Prisames settled their claims, they each relinquished the majority residential sectors in their claims to be neutral, joining the main promenade and the artisan’s workshops as being under the jurisdiction of the city government.

Location

The location of Cixrith is vital to the city’s success. It can be found at the midpoint between the two enormous trade cities of Iriemery and Hailholm, making the journey easier for the smaller ships of Lake Aquia.

Guilds and Factions

There are four main factions vying for control of Cixrith: the Crimson Leviathan Pirate Crew, the Prisame Crime Family, the Unionist Church, and the Representatives of the Common People.

Crimson Leviathans

The Crimson Leviathans are a former trading & shipping company, and current main pirate crew of Lake Aquia. Read their story and learn more details about their organization here.

The Crimson Leviathans provide constant patronage and protection to the shipbuilders, taverns, and traveling merchants. They charge for allowing ships to both enter and leave the harbor, for alcohol licenses, and for the right to store food and other such goods in the public storehouses.

Prisame Family

The Prisame family, though disgraced from most guilds of artisans, have remained infamous for their war with the Crimson Leviathans and their control over part of Cixrith. They are also generous patrons of the city’s markets, brothels, drug dens, and inns, and charge tax replacements for the operation of these facilities.

Unionist Church/United Church

The Unionist Church of Elementism has declared a Godly Mission to rid Cixrith of all crime, vice, and blasphemy. The base for this mission is located in the Cathedral of our Lord the Strength of all Weapons, across from the mayor’s house along the main promenade. The Paladins patrol the promenade, making it the safest part of Cixrith for a law-abiding civilian, and the church’s patronage of the artisan’s workshops has ensured the official city government’s tax revenue.

Representatives of the Common People

The Representatives of the Common People are a pressure group that advocates for the quality of life and continued peace in Cixrith as it concerns non-criminal, non-clergy, non-military civilians. They only officially claim the mayor’s office and single intact printing-house of the now defunct Weaver, Smoker and Company Newspaper, but their influence extends through most of the neutral residential districts and the tonauk market.
