Shapechanger Dragon

A Dragon with great power over the form of things. They can manifest castles out of air and get rid of them, or change a pool of water into a pool of diamond. Due to their abilities to control what makes up the world, where they make their lair is unimportant, and they usually take the areas least appealing to other Dragons. These areas are usually hilltops, and they change the dirt into food and water. Despite their power, they find the original form of things precious, and seek out precious gems that have not been changed. They use their power in their lair to create false floors and walls, traps for intruders and hidden passageways, sometimes creating at least two whole cave systems, one hidden that the Dragon makes its home in, and one fake, with supposed signs of life but no treasure as a distraction for adventurers. Such adventurers sometimes starve to death in the caves or eventually pledge servitude to the Dragon. It is believed that they will turn into a Black Dragon if they fail to engage in mischievous behavior for a sufficiently long length of time, although some sages think that they were able to change the condition, or that it is meaningless since they can simply change themselves back to their normal form.

Basic Information

Genetics and Reproduction

A Shapechanger Dragon does not need another Dragon to reproduce. At some point during their life, usually after 200 or so years, they will simply create a group of 3 to 6 eggs out of the surrounding area. The way to create these eggs is unknown, even to them, so they are especially precious and subsequently manufacture their lair into the perfect home to hatch the eggs and teach the hatchlings.

Ecology and Habitats

They can live in any environment as they are able to change it to fit them.

Dietary Needs and Habits

They prefer to hunt and forage, but if they can't find adequate food, they can just make some from the ground.

Additional Information

Social Structure

Whenever Shapechanger Dragons meet, the first thing they will do is have a contest of trickery making. The aim of this is to confuse the other. This contest can last for days, and often attracts onlookers. Whoever wins this contest is considered the better. The better a trickster the Dragon is, the more popular it is.

Domestication

Impossible since they can get rid of any bonds.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Most of them live in Norwild or Sulwint in the inland areas where few other Dragons are drawn.

Average Intelligence

They are very intelligent, and use this to their advantage in constructing traps and trickery.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Somehow they are able to see in the dark and while blind. Some sages hypothesize that they changed the darkness around their eyes to light in order to get the information.

Civilization and Culture

Naming Traditions

These Dragons have many names, one for each of the forms it takes and all are chosen by itself.

Beauty Ideals

Since they can simply change anything, there is no conception of beauty as a factor in appeal, however the more awe inducing an appearance is, the better it is considered.

Gender Ideals

They do not have genders as others would understand it, but they do sometimes assign themselves a gender, though that may be for only certain forms, or permanent.

History

They were created by Geltham and let loose upon the world.

Historical Figures

Geltham for creating them.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

They respect most species, but hate Hill Giants and other species that either don't joke or can't take a joke.
