Minaarad

Minaarad, also known as the City of Dragons, is a beautiful city made of smooth and chiseled sandstone. Almost every wall, post, corner and street is covered in intricate designs carved into the sandstone, decorated with vibrant blues and greens. Its an open city, having no walls, the desert in which it lays provides the protection needed. It lays on the edge of the Gradintu Oasis , a big lake laying in the middle of the Naryili Desert. Minaarad has a population of roughly 80.000, and earns most of its money through trade by selling raw Dragonstone to the kingdoms. It is said there's a hundred Dragonstone mines around Minaarad, but the largest is within in the city, and it is controlled by the Nannaan family.

Minaarad was esthablised hundreds, maybe thousands of years ago, when people wanted to escape from the many monsters and beasts that roamed the land. While the monsters in the desert were more dangerous, they were much rarer even before The Hunt, and almost extinct afterwards. The first people found the Gradintu Oasis and settled down were getting water was easy. Minaarad grew slowly, food was hard to get, and few people joined through the years, but with time it grew until it became a city state. It first truly became a city when the Nannaan family came to the town with a caravan of 15 other small families. The Nannaan family were masterful craftsmen and started the citys tradition of carving designs in the sandstone buildings. They also became protectors of the city, their thick dragon scales and ability to breathe destruction kept the occasional monster away. And such the city grew, slowly but steadily.

The political situation within Minaarad is fairly simple, due to their history and ownership of the largest Dragonstone mine in the world, the Nannaan family holds complete power within Minaarad. It's a situation of mutual trust and respect, there isn't much need for ruling as crime and discord is very rare in Minaarad. People get what they need, and have the oppertunity to work for more.

There is essentially two militaries in Minaarad, the Nannaan family army, composed exclusively of dragonborns from various families. This army stands for hunting monsters that trouble the city, ecorting important nobles and emissaries, and act as an elite force in case of war. The force is 1.000 strong, and is always recruiting more capable warriors.
Then there is the volunteer army of the common people. The army recieves a small amount of money to help keep it running, but it is simply made up of whoever is willing to fight and has the money for armor and arms. This army is not active unless there is a grave threat. Instead people keep living their lives and show up for the occasional training to keep them ready. It is uncertain just how many people are in the army as no official records are kept, but it is assumed to be between 3.000 to 5.000 people.
