A simplified history

History in Rise of Kingdoms is divided into ages, an age does not have a set amount of years, but can be assumed to be 200-500 years in length.

Age of beasts
The earliest documents and tales come from the age of beasts. Not much is known, simply that the land was overrun with magical beasts. Traveling was dangerous, and it was hard to find food. Simple weapons like clubs and stone spears were all people had to defend themselves.

Age of nomads
After many years of learning and practice, people had learnt how to fight against beasts and monsters. This allowed them to travel around the world to find better food and better materials. Sometimes tribes of nomads would group up to work togeter for better chances of survival. However, many were still wary of danger and prefered to keep to themselves.

Age of metal
The Age of metal starts with the discovery of metal working. Using copper and bronze to fashion weapons and armor. This upgrade of tools allowed people to harvest a wider array of minerals and resources, and thus led to the first small towns.

Age of trade
One of the most documented ages, as the many towns that had begun to spring up started trading with eachother. Trading was a dangerous job, many monsters could attack someone between towns. So they had plenty of guards, and documented everything they brought to make sure nothing was lost. Traders became richer than anyone else, making a big profit selling workers wares in other towns. This led them to start the first guilds, were rich merchants hired others to make money for them.

Age of The Hunt
This age began after blacksmiths had started mastering iron, forging stronger weapons than bronze or copper could offer. Many saw this as their chance to rid themselves of the beasts and monsters roaming the land once and for all. Thus began The Hunt, from every village came soldiers and farmers, equipped with whatever weapons they could afford, and began systematically hunting down every beast they could find. However, this also lead to many villages being underdefended, and as such many came home to ruins and death.

Age of cities
The land being much safe after The Hunt, trade started blooming, and towns could afford to expand much more. The first cities started appearing, large settlements of thousands of people, previously thought impossible to sustain. Soon the biggest of these cities became powerful city states like Havenport, Minaarad and Syracuse.

Age of kingdoms
And thus we arrive at our current age, which has been going on for 400 years now. It began as the three kingdoms of Invar, Clir and Valderfell was esthablised, bringing about a centralised power and law. 150 years ago the Nothern kingdom was esthablished and became the fourth kingdom. This age is marked by prosperity and rising tensions. Both between kingdoms, and inside them.
