Out of Khepnefera

The beginnings of Arvanor

The Pharaohs of the fifth dynasty were cruel. Some say the influence of the efreeti caused the slide, while others suggest the work of the devils which were becoming more commonplace in the Empire. One such Pharaoh was Neferkahor VII. Neferkahor built the Khepneferan military to an unprecedented degree, hoping to make the giants and titans of Hjalmar his subjects.   One of his most brilliant generals was Gaius Arvanor Calenus. Under Gaius’ leadership, the Khepneferan military made deep inroads into Hjalmar. Neferkahor became jealous of the way his court praised Gaius, and waited for news of the next success of Gaius’ regiment. The stories say that while returning from a successful engagement with the titans, Gaius’ regiment was attacked by the Pharaoh’s personal bodyguard, the only force he could trust to attack the popular general. Weakened from his battles, Gaius led his men out of Khepnefera hounded by the Pharaoh’s men.   Others say that Gaius grew disgusted with the empire’s focus on planar magic and planar allies, or that he saw the corruption and decline of the empire and chose to leave.   Gaius’ regiment attracted many citizens, and as he fought his through the empire, his ranks grew and grew. Eventually he left the Empire proper and began making his way west to the Golden Coast and up through the Endless Plains. Once Gaius' refugees were far enough away, the Pharaoh's guard eventually gave up the chase. Heading west across the Endless Plains Gaius had many encounters with the hin on their savage warbeasts until finally establishing a permanent base. That base eventually became Theopolis, birthplace of the Kingdom of Arvanor.
