War raged at the end of the Golden Age, as the primordials and gods struggled for supremacy. Each created living weapons, the tarrasque, hydras, krakens and other monstrosities were born as living weapons. The gods created the angels, guardianls, archons and other servitors while the primordials created obyrith, yugoloths, and eventually demons. The destruction of an unnamed god released his servitors, the greatest of whom, Asmodeus, rebelled and fled established the Hells. Eventually, the gods were victorious. They slew many of the primordials, but were not able to defeat them all. They were able to imprison some of the Elder Titans in Tarterus, while other primordials and titans were banished to the Elemental Chaos, never to enter the world again. The world was shattered into three pieces, the prime and its echoes, the Feywild and the Shadowfell. Looking at the destruction their war caused, it was said that the gods cried and removed themselves from the world. Some even say that the Veil refused them allow them back once they left. The gods established their Dominions in the Astral Sea, placing themselves on the Great Wheel. The lesser races were changed by the conflict. The mortal races on the echoes of the prime changed. The elves in the Feywild became Eladrin, while in the Shadowfell, they turned into the drow and the shadow fey. Humans never had a presence in the Feywild, but the humans trapped in the Shadowfell became the Shadar-kai. The hin of shadow became the dark folk (or darklings). Death increased its hold on the lesser races, the elves lost their immortality, and the lifespan of all other races were greatly diminished. It was said that in this dark period after the Dawn War, the illithids established an empire across the planes. Some even speculate that the gith were the humans changed by the Feywild. The Wind Dukes of Aaqa (or Vaati), horrified at the creation of the demons, spread across the worlds, combating the obyrith and demon hordes and their leader, the Queen of Chaos.
