Cloudmist Mountains

The northern section of the Sungleam Mountains, after its breaks for the Coryani Republic is considered a separate range. The Cloudmist Mountains are notorious for the clouds which envelop its peaks. Most assume this is a by-product of the many cloud giant clans which call the Cloudmists home.   The Cloudmists are almost completely impassable, forcing any trade between the Eastern Kingdoms and the west to travel north and skirt the lands of Hjalmar. Once Horandar and Quol'dar were wiped out, no other kingdom was able to muster a force enough to keep this passage clear. The former lands of Horandar and Quol'dar are now a war zone called the Contested Lands. The eventual ruler of these lands would control the trade routes to the west.   The Cloudmists have very few dwarven holds, although members of the line of Valunn, who claim the Sungleams as their own, have a few mines and clanholds in the Cloudmists. More prominent are the tribes of goblins and hobgoblins who mine the Cloudmists and trade with the kingdoms of Elember, Gondal, and Nithalor. The goblins of the Cloudmists are much more civilized than many of their race, although they are closely watched when in one of the kingdoms listed above.
