High Holidays of Auradon
The High Holidays of Auradon are culturally important to the sociopolitical world of Auradon.
The first High and National Holiday is the annual Chenoweth Power Peak. This day is Auradon’s Midsummer. It is the highest peak of Auradonian Magic AKA Fairytale Magic like Earth’s Summer Solstice (Litha). This peak also makes it possible to connect or contact other worlds of Magic. The items of mystical power are strengthened.
It was known but uncelebrated for many years. It wasn’t until after King Ben and Queen Mal brought back the use of magic that it was and is celebrated. The High Royalty of Auradon and the ambassadors of Magic are the ones to lead any type of ceremony like the letter they sent to Baxter.
This ceremony occurs in an unnamed place. It is the theater-like place facing the Isle where the bridge between the Isle and Auradon Central by Auradon Prep is. King Ben and Queen Mal enlarged this place for things like this day. From here, there’s a path to Beast Castle and on that path is the Auradonian Portal to Earth.
The second High Holiday begins the month of Harmony. This High Holiday is a ten-day Festival and Royal Conference. It is called Unity Hill Week. Unity Hill Week doesn’t officially start until the whole land comes to town.
It unofficially starts the week before when banners and decorations appear. It is throughout the land that people practice kindness and generosity, humility and love as the days finally countdown to another Unity Hill Week.
Everybody, from commoner to royalty, eats a fabulous dinner prepared by the cooks at Beast Castle in Auradon City. These thousands of fed residents watch their sun set into the night. Fireworks are watched by all.
For four days after, all royalty meets to discuss everything.
Unity Hill Week also hosts three National Holidays:
High Royalty Day is when Ben and Mal (along with Beast and Belle) parade down Auradon City and to Auradon Cathedral where Ben and Mal speak about Unity, Harmony, Friendships, and how they see the future of Auradon.
Royal Families Day is where all royal families parade down Auradon City and around the loop surrounding the city.
The next day brings the main festivities to a close with a final speech by Hugh King Ben and High Queen Mal. Later, the mystical beings do a rainbow in the sky and the greatest fireworks that night.
Officially, this ends it.
Unofficially, the people often continue to unite in humility, love and joy for 2 weeks. And they always keep this spirit of this holiday in their hearts!
Four months pass. The month of Peace and Love hosts a two-week festival of Love and Hope. Ben and Mal began this gesture as a thank you to Fairy Godmother, Enchantress Audra Angel, and the Three Fairies. It is Unity Hill Week (Part 2) Festival for Mystical Beings and Auradonian Magic.
This festival celebrates Magic and those who use it. And it tells of those who do evil things with it and it warns citizens what happens to their hearts.
Sometimes the history of Auradon is told and sometimes not.
The festival is commonly associated with forgiveness and better understanding of what Auradonian Magic is.
The time comes for them to gather the harvest as the weather cools down and the leaves fall from the trees.
There’s a holiday very similar to Samhain. It reminds them of people like Jafar and Maleficent and Chernabog. Many people do not want to deal with Dark Magic and so hide for a few days only coming out during the day.
Then comes Winter. And snow. Lots of snow. The next National Holiday is Week of Thankfulness/Thanksgiving.
At the coldest time of year comes the festivals of Yule and of Christmas. Then a new year begins!
Wassailia. Wassailia is their version of Christmastide (without Santa Claus) and Wintertide. On the coldest day, King Ben and Queen Mal celebrate their version of Yule. Until a new year begins.
