Ayani-mok
The Ayani-mok live on Ahyani, an island located off the coast in the northern hemisphere and is approximately 150 square miles. The center of the island is mountainous with the Ayani-mok settlement of Ahyani City found on the eastern side. Diverse special of birds and small mammals are found on the island, most notably the Trechen, once prized for its striking gold and azure plumage. They also have the ability to speak prophecy. This a a useless ability as it only relates prophecies as they pertain to other Trechens. It also makes Trechens extremely difficult to catch. The islanders devised a unique method which is known only to them. In turn, the captured Trechen evolved to prophesize the day and time of death of the island that caught them. Trade in Trechens has dropped considerably since no one wants to know that.
Also found on the island is a unique sand which, when used in the glassmaking on the mainland, allows the glass to generate heat and light on its own. The currents around the island are dangerous and rocky shoals can be found in waters between the island and the mainland, protecting the islanders from the pirates and traders who would otherwise not think twice about taking over the island. There was once talk of building a bridge between the island and the mainland but that person was deemed insane and driven out.
Temperatures on the island range from a high of 72 degrees and low of 58 degrees in the summer to a high of 44 degrees and a low of 37 degrees in the winter. Most bird species migrate in the winter. Winter on the island, while mild, is marked by high tides and violent seas making fishing impossible. The Ayani-mok survive on dried produce and fish. When the birds return in the spring, marking the beginning of the season and celebrated with a flower festival by the Ayani-mok. This coincides with the blessing of the boats and a return of the fishing season.
