Darcy Goddard
Darcy Goddard
Darcy Goddard is an Owlfolk Rogue and Guild Adept. She has spent most of her life working aboard ships, most frequently as a lookout and scout due to her flying prowess, and currently holds that very role aboard the Pendagast, which leads the Jade Sea Trade Expedition.
History
Born on the misty Isle of Noble Beasts, Darcy was the youngest of her clutch but not the smallest. Her parents worked as fishers off the nearby coast, and from a young age Darcy would eagerly beg to come along and help. Though she was turned down many times, especially when the weather looked sourer, she was able to accompany them often enough to gain a deep love of the sea. When it came time for her to find a job of her own, she attempted to find employment among fishers, but settled for work aboard a merchant's vessel when the opportunity came up. These first trips were her first taste of adventure, but also led to her catching the attention of Frances Young, who was on the boat as a spy for another merchant. Noticing Darcy's nimbleness and the usefulness of her flight, Frances introduced her to her employer, beginning Darcy's double-life as a spy. Darcy was moved from ship to ship to observe the goings-on of each merchant and their dealings, all the while taking great care to perform her "standard" duties as well as she could. This continued comfortably for many years, with Darcy taking a brief break to get married to fellow owlfolk sailor Ikki Hartell.Discovery
Unfortunately for Darcy, on an otherwise unremarkable trade trip passing by Welvarend, the captain of her vessel realised what she had been hired to do. In short order she was attacked by the captain's most loyal sailors and tossed overboard, and was forced to swim to the islands to recover. Recognising her reputation as a good sailor back home would be at risk as soon as that boat returned home, she sent for her husband and children to join her in Welvarend, and began again. Though her initial employment under Welvarender merchants was wholly legitimate, her past soon found her in the form of Frances, who offered to connect her to another merchant in need of a spy. Though she and her husband hesitated for a time, she eventually accepted the offer. In due course, she was given a lengthier assignment than any she'd been given previously - to spy on the Jade Sea Trade Expedition.Family, Friends, and So On
Important People- Husband: Ikki Hartell - 37 Years Old
Loving nothing more than a job well done, Ikki is a productive and hardworking owl. He has similarly spent most of his life aboard boats, though as a cooper and general repairman rather than a lookout. He has continued in this trade after his relocation to Welvarend, though he travels less now that Darcy is overseas, instead offering his services dock-side. - Colleague: Frances Young - 41 Years Old
A cheeky goat lady from Arcadia's north, Frances has never held a "legitimate" job without some kind of caveat attached. Growing up in a street gang and being known for her sneakiness, she soon found work aboard ships as a spy for merchants. Despite her loyalty to her employers, her poor job performance as an actual sailor has hampered her attempts to secure more important missions, but she has no bitterness over the matter. After all, she's still being paid twice for each trip she takes! - Leader: Naielle Odelia - 122 Years Old
A Sylvian warlock with little knowledge outside of her history books, Naielle is the navigator for the Pendagast. Though naive, she is earnest and eager to learn, and has applied herself to navigation ever since she was exiled from the Sylvian Empire 20 years ago. With her knowledge of the stars and Darcy's keen eyes, the fleet has stayed mostly intact for their long voyage. - Co-retainer: Tarik Demishruk - 54 Years Old
A calm rock in the wild seas, Tarik is a dwarf helmsman aboard the Pendagast. Though in his youth he was a part of a pirate crew called the Blood Maelstrom, he has long since changed his ways, and dedicates himself to bringing joy and peace where he can. Most often found decorating his standing box, it is not unusual for him to be lending an ear to a crewmate in need as he does so.
