Setting Debrief

Valoris is a land of ancients and industry. A world shaped by titans and immortal heroes. Once upon a time there were great pylons formed on the hope of mortals. These pylons allowed those with enough determination and will to persist to bring themselves back from death, but many were destroyed during the devastation of the Firewater wars.

The God Beasts

An unexplained phenomenon that occurs in Valoris is the creations of creatures with immense power known as god beasts. To most scholars' knowledge it is a random occurrence untraceable. The god beasts can even appear unexplainably full grown in times to trouble. These beasts are intelligent but ultimately bestial. They can embody virtues and have realm shaking power. Clerics who are faithful enough are even able to draw divine power from these creatures, despite this they are not immortal as evidenced by the destruction of Deus Rex at the hands of Saint Decius. Despite their mortality it is ill advised to combat a god beast, as Deus Rex was able to single handedly bring total ruin to the Savran empire which was still centuries more advanced than Valoris as it is now.

The Firewater Wars

Even now in 1430 the Firewater wars are a fresh memory in the minds of many Valorans. With the construction of the Firewater Facility in the Udran empire, a leak began to poison the Red River which opened conflict between the city states of the Crossroads and the Udran Empire. Between the ecological disasters and the wartime opportunities the fighting spread to other regions of Valoris as almost all were forced to involve themselves in one way or another. The despair brought ruin to the remaining pylons and fostered hostility. To assist in rebuilding the realm as a united people, Duke Gideon began the construction of the Valoris Rail Network (VRN) to connect the regions.

The Rift

A great battle was fought in the city of Veils End, the conflict was abruptly halted by the arrival of the god beast Haanila who sacrificed herself in a display of peace. This act halted the fighting and marked Veil's End as a site of pilgrimage. To declare honoring the sanctuary established in the city all surrounding regions paid tribute to the reconstruction of the city as a symbol of their respect. This sacrifice also tore open a realm gate between Faerun and Valoris, as the VRN expanded many mages worked together to connect the rail line to the mainland to welcome in new arrivals.
