Psychopomp
Psychopomps are high-class Demons individuals that act as guides for souls. After the 10,000 Days, it became necessary for souls to be guided to Sheol, lest they become lost souls wandering the realms for eternity, lest they enter the great Yggdrasil and fall into the The Void, lest they become taken by much more devious entities that wish to use the souls for nefarious purposes.
After The Withering, the need for Psychopomps skyrocketed immensely, and as such, Demons would begin training living species whom were spiritually inclined to become Psychopomps. This came about due to the fact that Sheol itself had begun to fall apart, with Tears having begun to form all around the realm and Scarred Ash falling upon the land, causing a series of problems to arise for demon-kind.
Career
Other Benefits
Due to the fact that Psychopomps will often have to spend large amounts of time in Sheol or outside of the realms, alongside the massive pay of 999.999 VU per soul retrieved; they are given living areas in Sheol that are expense-free* and fitted to accommodate for their taste. As of present, these living areas are in the city of Dis due to the lack of viable Gateways connecting to the other cities.
To further reward Psychopomps for their work, they are given a Kindred to act as a companion; as well as a Marker to inform demons of their ranking, which has given Psychopomps access to entertainment and resources that are nominally unavailable to lower ranked inhabitants. This includes being able to access the lower layers of hell and meet with the higher-class demons and rulers-- save for Lucifer, of course.
*In Sheol, since currency is ultimately rendered irrelevant in lieu of a mix of Soul pacts and a bargaining system, "expense-free" in this context means that a part of one's soul will not be offered up for ownership by a demon or be rendered available for possession or temporary seizure.Perception
Social Status
Given the importance of Psychopomps in the role of bringing souls to safety from the chaotic forces found on Yggdrasil; alongside the new risks of leaving souls to wander around lost in the other realms after The Withering, Psychopomps are revered throughout parts of Sheol. They've earned a level of respect that's difficult to obtain in such a realm, a respect that has allowed access to the upper echelons of Shoel's society. It's not unheard of for Psychopomps to be favored by the larger families in the Highest Key and as such, treated as kin.
On the opposite end, however, it's not unheard of for Psychopomps to be despised by the lower class demons whose occupations involve the theft and manipulation of souls. Necromancers and certain sects of Bozhestvo Faiths in particular have been known to try and get into conflict with Psychopomps, with a few unfortunately Psychopomps themselves losing their lives and becoming prey to their machinations.
Overall, however, it is against the Daemon Codex to bring harm against Psychopomps. In the olden days before The Withering, this sort've act would have resulted in a visit to Lucifer himself in his home, Treachery. Nowadays, however, you're more likely to just be thrown out into The Void, to drown in the Void Sea and become lost.

Oftentimes individuals with Wither or are descended from demons (most predominantly Cambrions) make wonderful candidates for being a Psychopomp.
I always like the idea of psychopomps. Love your take on them.
