A long time ago, before he was exiled for his crimes, The Cold would hang those he deemed against him. These condemned would have a noose hung around their neck, before being frozen and then sunk into the depths of the Dark Sea. The condemned would be kept alive thanks to the properties of the Mana and Noxious within the water, keeping them from expiring from strangulation, prolonged exposure to freezing temperatures, and hunger.

When he was removed from The Sef for his crimes against Strakh, all those he had hung in the waters were removed from their prisons. Their minds have long since been lost due to the pain and the fear, and some say that their souls were taken by The Cold before he was banished from the realm.

When one wanders by the Dark Sea nowadays, one can still hear the cries of agony of the victims, being plunged deep into the water as they're choked by the noose.
