Treacle Museum

The museum was the brain-child of Kinax Jelnamen and has become the biggest tourist attraction in the town of Treex Aaf, after the treacle mines themselves that is. It has grown and changed quite a bit since it first opened its doors seven years ago, and it continues to pull in regular visitors, especially during holidays.

Things to see

Toffee displays

Most people don't realize just how many different types of toffee, and other treacle based confectionary, there actually are. At least not until they've seen the amazing variety on display at the museum. Each display has a sign with short description of its history, who first created it, and an interesting fact or two.

History of Treex Aaf display

This series of displays takes visitors on a journey through the history of Treex Aaf and its inhabitants, right up to present day (The display is updated on a six monthly basis). There are several actors dressed up as famous people from the town's past, and they will answer questions people have, in character whenever possible.

Things to do

The museum isn't a place to just look at things, there are several activities available for both adults and children to participate in.

Tasting sessions

Here visitors get to taste a variety of different toffees and treacles, and garner a little insight into how they are flavoured. They will also learn the best dishes to prepare using each of the types, and which occasions they are best used for. Sessions take place on the hour, every hour, and last for half an hour. They are suitable for both adults and children.

Toffee making sessions

In these sessions, visitors will be shown the basics of toffee making and then get a chance to try it for themselves. Sessions last for an hour and visitors can take away any toffee they manage to sucessfully make themselves. Sessions are available for both children and adults, though some activities are restricted by age for health and safety reasons.

Confectionary classes

This is where visitors get to learn the fine art of making confectionary look amazing. These classes are split into beginner, those with little to no experience crafting sweets, and advanced classes, those already familiar with the common techniques. The advanced classes cover a host of topics from, shaping, coating, colouring, sugar-glass sculptures and many many more.
