Professor Marco Bolduwick
One could hardly find a person more dedicated to broadening the horizons of humanity's knowledge, nor one more oblivious to their own fame.It is a rare character, a person of note without an overly inflated ego. I had the honour of speaking to Professor Bolduwick a few years back, and it was a very refreshing experience. A person of such knowledge, they would be invaluable to any university or academic group. It is a shame really that Professor appears simply incapable of staying put for more than a few days. Constantly travelling the land and exploring new things, even his books are for the most part a collection of diaries and notes taken over the course of long journeys rather than something he would set time aside to write.
Mental characteristics
Personal history
Everyone calls him Professor, but the fun fact is that Marco Bolduwick never even formally finished his Master's studies. It seems his first big trip to the New World was undertook as part of the studies, and then the young scholar just fell in love with exploring and never bothered to return to reading the works of others. His early books were all published under the name of "Bachelor of Sciences M. Bolduwick".
But become big enough of a name and you might find yourself as an exception to the rules. His findings and never-ending stream of discoveries were attracting quite an attention to Marco Bolduwick, who eventually found himself granted an honorary title of Professor by his alma mater. And then a few other universities, and then some more. The running joke in the scholarly community is that at this point it is embarrassing for a university to not have Marco Bolduwick as their honorary professor.
Employment
This here is the dream of any person who wants to be a trailblazer and make a path of their own. From what I know, Marco Bolduwick has never technically worked a day in his life!
His first two expeditions were funded by his family, the third one by the profits from selling his journals. Those publications as well as pledges from wealthy benefactors have funded every expedition since, a list including even the Ardenian Emperor and the High King of Eire. In fact, most territories in those nations have a standing order to provide any support necessary to Professor and his companions. And all that despite Bolduwick politely declining to enter the employ of any of his sponsors.
Social
Family Ties
Marco Bolduwick came from a family of small-scale merchants, who had to spend much of their wealth on his first two expeditions. He had more than repaid the favour since, and let first his parents and now his brother and sister to manage all of Marco's assets in return. I suspect, that was the real reason why his books have managed to sell so well to begin with. With book sales and gifts from patrons providing a steady source of income, the Bolduwick family has come to own a considerable amount of land and businesses throughout the Empire.
