Migrating Islands

How the hell do you lose an island? Are you drunk?!
One of the many mysteries of the New World, so it is. Islands discovered by crews and marked on maps, and then never found again. Or found somewhere far from where they are supposed to be.   Naturally, at first everyone thought the maps were wrong. Or the sailors made a mistake plotting the course. But with hundreds of reports to this day, we can seldom deny the fact - for reasons unknown, sometimes island migrate from one place to another. Hence the name, migrating islands.

Geography

There are only a few dozen islands documented well enough to be considered migrating islands. I would love to say that they all have something in common, but the tough fact is that they do not. Well, aside from all of them being found in the New World. And if that does not say "sorcery" to you, then what does?   The smallest migrating island we know of is nothing but a rock, some three hundred square meters big and inhabited by nothing but birds. Or at least we think we know about it - might just be a few similar rocks met throughtout the ocean. The biggest one is a full-out island several miles across and with a bustling ecosystem.

Ecosystem

Now here is a weird thing. None of the migrating islands have ever been seen with human inhabitants. Why is that weird? Well, because three separate crews claim that they witnessed someone being marooned on one of these islands - either as punishment or after being captured by pirates. Many more crews stopped by what they thought to be a normal island, and found no trouble.   I personally know an explorer who was fascinated with this mystery, and chose to undertake an expeditition to one. Stayed behind on one with a small team, or so the merchant crew claims, and was never heard from again. And it seems he was not the first one to go missing that way.
Do not dare take a step upon those abominable creatures of Chaos! Their whole purpose is to lure in innocent sailors and then devour their souls once no one is around to witness.
As you can imagine, the Church is not particularly fond of these phenomena. Nor are they of most things in the New World, to be frank. The stories of sailors and explorers going missing did not help that opinion. As a result, many people nowadays are rather cautious about anything that looks like a migrating island - or even any uncharted island at all.   Now whether there is any ground to the claim about the monstrous nature of these islands, we do not know. Are they monsters in disguise? Are they islands merely a bait that even bigger monsters use to lure us in? Is it just an unstable piece of land moved around by the many currents and flows of the ocean? If you happen to have the answer - let us know!
