Loyals
Hummish that are proud of not being Hummish anymore. What next, a homebody Kimnan or a pacifist Durrean? For centuries, Hummish were being torn apart between their culture and traditions and the laws of the Ardenian Empire they were forced to live in. That is why many of the legendary Hummish generals fought so hard to preserve their influence over the imperial court, in order to protect their people from persecution. Or so they claimed at least. Surely all the privileges and wealth and estates that came with power had nothing to do with their motivation? Meanwhile, not every Hummish shared that notion. An increasing number of their people started to view themselves as Ardenian first and Hummish second. They pledged their unwavering loyalty to the imperial dynasty, earning a new name and scorn from their former bretheren. However, just how different they really are is still a hot topic for discussion.
History
The first Loyals have been known of more than four centuries ago, although they were not yet known by that name. Centuries of living side-by-side with others people tends to change your view on the world, and these days you could seldom find a Hummish without any Kosari or Kimnan blood in their veins. Yet this subculture, if you may, had really only taken off as the Ardenian Empire started to crumble and burn with flames of rebellions and secessions. While most Hummish dreamt of establishing their own realms once again, some were content to continue living the same way. The issue had really came to boil during the Imperial Restoration. As Hummish warlords lost much of their power over the imperial court, the one thing that was giving them a sense of purpose has all but disappeared. Their people were forced to either fight the new status quo or accept it. Some chose to flee, prompting waves of migration to the newly independent Hummish nations and emboldening their leaders. Others chose to rise in rebellion and were often crushed without mercy. Both of these reactions weakened the positions of traditionalist Hummish within the empire, and strengthened those of the Loyals.Remove these ads. Join the Worldbuilders Guild
