Grand Republic of Etox
A surprise invasion by superior forces from across the ocean. Now what does that remind me of?For centuries, the nations of the Old World has enjoyed riches of the New World and fought over its lands unchallenged. Colonisers were content in the knowledge that no danger could ever come to their own lands. For the first time, this is no longer true. Now, not much is known of the Grand Republic or its people. No one even knows where they come from! The lands they call Etox are not on any maps, and invaders have proven unwilling to share the maps or any of their knowledge. In fact, it is often suspected that the "Grand Republic" is nothing but a ruse and a clandestine attack by one of major nations.
Structure
When willing to talk to us, people of Etox tend to make big speeches on how tyrannic and oppresive each and every nation in the Old World is. Their own place is made to sound like heaven on earth, with all men being equal and ruled by elected representatives rather than nobility of any kind. However, those statements could seldom be trusted given the way they rule the occupied lands by law of force. At the end, it comes down to the good old "might makes right".
Public Agenda
Again, there is a lot of high-horse talk of what the Grand Republic is all about. What matters to us is why they chose to begin an invasion of the Old World. Allegedly, that was done in response to our warmongering and out of fear that war will be brought to their doorstep. I guess they decided that starting a war themselves is somehow better?
History
To be fair, the Grand Republic has been around for long enough to really warrant a more detailed discussion. Or rather, it has not been in the Old World long enough. It is told that the nation itself has existed for centuries, but no prove was ever presented. What we know is that a few decades ago an Ardenian ship got lost in the ocean and landed on the shores of Etox, proven by the captain's name and rutters. We do not know what happened of the crew, but I imagine nothing good.
It is also unclear how advanced the technologies at Etox were before that event. What we know is that two years ago an invasion fleet arrived to the very boundaries of the Old World, and conquered several minor Eirish islands. During that conquest, their weapons have proven themselves reminiscent of our earlier designs yet superior in quality. The Eirish resisted to little success, and their relief fleet was defeated in the sea and forced to turn back - a rare feat. And here we are now, with Etox forces seemingly content to hold onto the few islands under their control. But for how long?
