The Legend of the Time and Seasons

Summary

A war between the gods, and the constant clashing of their opposing elements has created seasonal rotations, and the day and night cycle. The god who is winning the war, is able to dominate the world, spreading his element and ideals onto the canvas that is Whitehearth.

Historical Basis

The myth has been depicted countless times in early art such as cave paintings, statues and pottery, as well as modern day tapestry's, tattoos, and framed paintings in galleries. All the modern art takes inspiration for the forms of the gods from the ancient art. The gods of Whitehearth are elusive, if real, and have rarely communicated with mortals, as far as the general population is aware. The temples for the gods are the biggest evidence of the event occurring, as the source of each gods power is within the temples, however, they are sealed, and fiercely guarded by the highest ranking members of each god's respective religion.

Spread

This myth is extremely widespread, the townsfolk celebrate the starts of the seasons, the religious pray to the gods, in hope they bring great harvests, rain to grow crops, sunny summer days, and beautiful white snow fall. Vampires prey for longer nights, whilst children pray for bedtime never to come. Not only is this myth celebrated, it is widely accepted as fact. Numerous studies and investigations have been undertaken at the academy, to investigate the cause of the change of seasons, yet nothing concrete has been found thus far.

Variations & Mutation

Some people may believe the gods merely represent the seasons rather than physically create them, some think the the seasons occur naturally and the gods do not exist, and that the gods are just the seasons personified. Others believe the gods at war creates the seasons. Freedom of belief, faith etc are encouraged in most places.   The original myth is the war between the gods. Ancient scholars and artists, and what they left behind, are the main source of the spread of the legend into the modern times. Many of these pieces of art, are on display in galleries and private collections.    As time moves on the legend changes, and due to the gods silence, religion on the whole is on a decline. Younger people tend to believe less, and ask for evidence which the older generations cannot provide.

In Literature

Many of the religious books, focus on the seasons, and the night and day cycle. Poems about nature will often reference the gods or the myth.
