The Queen's Own
"Enemies at the gate! Remember, no prisoners - none of them leave alive. Long live the Queen!"When Queen Crimson consolidated her power, this was done by drawing a number of loyal people to her side. There were deals, oaths, and exchanges of property which bought the support of enough people to seize power. Ever since then, Queen Crimson has made it a priority to keep these supporters well-equipped and well-paid. Getting assigned to the Queen's Own was treated as both an honor and a way to keep an eye on misfits. After all, they specialized in the defense of Aquagea and the pirate strongholds on it. Being assigned to this unit meant there was ample opportunity to catch members doing what they weren't supposed to be doing. And since it was held up as an elite-level unit, this meant punishment was almost as severe as what was done to deserters.
Currently, Captain Geneva 'Pleasant' Morrow is in command of the company of ’Mechs and Commander Whitmore 'Four-Eyes' Yeardley commands the vehicle support. Their ranks are self-assigned, and they get away with it because nobody else dares to cross them. Queen Crimson preferred the illusion of structure, but underneath it her goal was to leave everyone feeling important while only she was in charge. There was only one queen here, and only one person who was in charge.
Composition
Vehicles
Primarily, the Queen's Own use BattleMechs and combat vehicle support which are slower but heavily armed. They make significant use of Manticore and Demolisher Heavy Tanks, each of which is capable of being a credible threat towards BattleMechs due to their armaments and heavy armor. The Queen's Own also are known to employ long-range and short-range missile carriers which exist to put as many missile tubes on a target as possible. For BattleMechs, favoritism is shown to missile boats such as the Trebuchet, Dervish, and Whitworth ’Mechs. These are aided by fast scouts (such as the Wasp, Stinger, and Phoenix Hawk) which can locate priority targets as well as engage on their own terms.
Captain Morrow uses a well-worn GRH-5H Grasshopper as her own personal BattleMech, and is rumored to have done a little customization to the machine. These rumors allege she worked with technicians to make it easier for her to use the jump jets and accurately fire her array of lasers. Since one of the more useful aspects of the Grasshopper is jumping like its namesake, this would make it much more effective on the battlefield.
There is one other machine of note, and that is an AWS-8Q Awesome which belongs to Queen Crimson herself. It is very rare for the queen to take the field, though sometimes necessary, and she does so in an assault-class BattleMech with the capability of repeatedly putting a withering barrage on-target for a significant amount of time relative to combat engagements. The machine is named "Crackle", having a purple lightning motif laid over deep crimson paint to identify it easily.

Training
For most members of the Queen's Own, it is required to have a confirmed kill in battle before being assigned to join. There are very few exceptions, and those who fail to demonstrate skill are put through a brutal "remedial exam" to either bring them up to the minimum acceptable level - or be killed. All members are put through a secondary training process to refocus their priorities, as the unit is primarily defensive in nature. Acting as a unit rather than as individuals trying to secure glory is the most important detail in this training. Being able to swiftly assess the situation and choose a course of action to engage the opponent is something Captain Morrow has been trying to reinforce. Similarly, as there is often no good idea what their opponents may be bringing to the field, the ability to recognize high-priority targets and focus them down is critical.
Most veteran members of the Queen's Own have picked up methods for leading their targets which give them greater accuracy at range. Some of the vehicle support crews have also learned how to use the primary weapon systems of their vehicles to their fullest, making them shockingly effective. When talking about Demolisher Heavy Tanks, this means their heavy autocannons can devastate targets who get within a hundred meters of range.
