Spirits of hunger

Hunger and the need for nutrients are two of the most fundamental forces pushing all living beings to act. It is no wonder that this need has reflected on the Spiritual World, giving birth to the spirits of hunger. Despite their name might suggest something malicious, those spirits don't cause hunger; they feed on it, a process that helps stave off starvation and, if it happens during eating, can increase the beneficial properties and nutritional value of the meal.   Spirits of hunger tend to show up in any places related to food. Since humanity started growing, they gathered in restaurants, inns, diners, and canteens. Their presence increases one's mood to eat something without feeling the negative side of being hungry. Food smells and tastes better, and if one already knows how to prepare the food, they might become slightly more inclined to volunteer to cook.   While spirits of hunger like to reside close to humans, mostly thanks to their creativity when it comes to food, should humanity succumb to the aftereffects of The Extinction, they will manage to live on, as humans aren't the only species that eats. They will just return to their baser forms from thousands of years ago.

Appearance

Spirits of hunger are born from such an ancient concept that their form became universal for most of them, and even feeding on things other than hunger itself rarely manages to change it. They mostly take on the form of snakes, skeleton panda sea squirts, or long transparent fish. When they feed on someone's hunger, they tend to wrap themselves around them, either floating in a ring around them or coiling around one of their limbs.

Spirits of voracity

Since spirits of hunger are very basic and primal creatures that have their feeding pool wide enough that they almost never have to feast on other concepts, and they don't risk turning into something else than what they are. Still, even though rarely, they might get corrupted when feeding on the negative parts of the concept of hunger for too long, something that might happen in areas struck by famine or in places where food has been contaminated, changing its conceptual function.   The warped versions of spirits of hunger are almost always dangerous, and with the spiritual and material worlds being merged, they might turn on the living prey, something that won't bring them nutritional value, just fueling their own starvation. In that case, they pretty much start to feed on themselves, pushing them into madness that will destroy them and everything around them.
