Why are you here?
Well basically you were born here....in Messingen, and your family lives here. But to answer the perhaps more important point.Why are you going to Hugeldal?
The simple answer is that you always go to Hugeldal on Bezahltag (Taxday), or if not you then your brother Hans. It happens to be the best day of the week for the armoury to refresh its stock of iron and copper. The reason being that the smelters of Hugeldal are really keen to offload the last of their stock from the previous week in order to maximise their performance bonus, which is calculated on Bezahltag. So, this is the day that a shrewd trader such as yourself can get the best price for the metal the armoury needs for the forthcoming week. So, thats why you're going to Hugeldal today, even though its cold and miserable.Education
None. You cannot read or write. Since your early youth you have been assisting your father in the armoury, and you are essentially an Apprentice Armourer. However, as you are quick to admit you have little interest or aptitude for the career and despite the long hours of toil in the forge have learned little that you consider of value.

Rom would probably say that his entire life is a failure and an embarrassment. He was forced to marry young when his wife Wolfhilda became pregnant which was in itself a mistake brought on by his own lack of self-esteem and too much drink. Now he has a family which is dependant upon him and is trapped in a life which he is convinced is not the right one for him.
