Kohatu Wood
"You Know, In The Elder Days They Say The Southern Tribes Would Make Swords From This Wood, That It Was So Hard It Could Keep An Edge, That It Could Beat The Iron Of The Day."Kohatu Wood comes from the Kohatu tree found in the Magabar Jungle, One of the more populous trees found in the jungle it is never the less highly valued for its its extreme density, Strength, And durability. The trees themselves are hard to cut and mill leading to workers having to use specialized tools since steel axes and saws dull too quickly when cutting the wood. It is often said that Kohatu wood rivals the strength of tempered iron, Although sounding far fetched there is truth to this due to the extreme strength of this wood. Brilliant in appearance, Kohatu Wood is a pale white wood with deep black grain that knots heavily in the core wood of the tree, Smelling faintly of tar and fresh oak. Found no where outside of Magabar Jungle makes this useful wood both rare and expensive. Extremely useful for furniture, doors, weapon shafts, tool shafts, and shields, it is however a terrible wood for making bows because of its inflexibility. The Kohatu trees grow large on average with a average height of ninety feet and a width of fifteen feet. Dark brown bark surrounds the tree which looks almost to be made of countless thigh sized vines of wood that combine into one greater tree. With leaves of deep green, and large long reaching branches making a wide canopy. Another unique feature of the wood is a oil produced by it that repels insects leaving the trees to be common nesting places for animals, on top of this the wood burns extremely hot, one of the hottest burning woods at almost twice that of oak.
