Shannon, Goddess of Luck

Shannon holds the distinction of not only being the Goddess of Luck, but also as the only God in the Pantheon to have ascended to Godhood. Born as an orphan on the streets Shannon grew up picking pockets and stealing to survive. In a time when the vast majority of the population were devout followers of at least one of the gods, Shannon did not participate in any church. She recognized the Gods held power, and had created much of the world, but she did not believe that they would affect her fate. Shannons true belief was that all mortals made their own destiny, created their own fate, otherwise the Gods were cruel to allow any of their people to wallow in illness, poverty, and misery. Her direct opposition intrigued the Gods, for none had so openly defied them, while maintaining a respect for them.    In the myths of her ascension it is said that Sera appeared to her as an old beggar woman passing through town. When she asked Shannon if she believed in the gods she asked her that if she created her own destiny, did she believe that she could become a god herself. Shannons reply was that nobody could just wish themselves into being a god, that even if she created her own destiny she would need the gods permission, or to at least prove herself worthy of wielding such a power.    The myths vary after this, but they all end with her proving the Gods wrong in a bet of her own destiny and them gladly welcoming her to the Pantheon. Unfortunately the stereotype of her time as a mortal means that many see her less as a god of luck and more of a god of thieves and tricksters. Many do not openly carry her symbol, though it is said that the fears are not unfounded and that thieves guilds and other criminal organizations worship her as their patron.
