Kri-kik's Hsaleth

In their Codex (see Kri-kik Codex), Kri-kik Split-tail expressed an interest in seeing the Szassar race exploring space. With that interest codified within the founding document of Szassar civilisation, it is no surprise that in the years following Kri-kik's death and the final, definitive edition of the Codex being published, the Szassar as a people celebrate the date on which Kri-kik embraced the end of their life with a sentimental and inspiring ritual with a hsaleth (archaic: remembrance) dedicated to their name.   All szass in a given tek (population centre) gather in the highest branches of the tallest trees in the settlement (or in the case of those barren environments where trees do not grow sufficiently tall to do so, atop the highest buildings or a nearby hill), and as the sun sets, a member of the Kel-rek (Kri-kik's descendants) or the town's Jatherin* will read the first twenty items of Kri-Kik's Codex to those assembled. When the second item is being read, all szassar assembled will turn their eyes towards the sky in a symbolic act of shared intent. As the second sentence in that section are read aloud, all szassar assembled join in refrain:
It is the duty of all szassar to dream of a future where we can go beyond the sky and walk with the szor-rek.
In this way, the szassar acknowledge both the vision and the legacy of their civilization's primary founder. Kri-kik Split-tail was an extraordinary leader, visionary and progressive thinker who had few genuine peers during their own life-span; and whose deeds and visionary thinking has rarely been matched since.
