The Cassalanter Family

The Cassalanters are a wealthy noble house in Waterdeep, making most of their money from banking and money lending.   The family lives in the Cassalanter Villa in the Sea Ward on Diamond Street.   

History

  The family is seen as incredibly wealthy and at times, trendsetters, using previously out-of-fashion maroon dyes for their gowns at parties.  

The Deal 

  In the late 15th century, the Cassalanter family faced imminent bankruptcy, and in order to save their status, made a deal with Archdevil Asmodeus. They traded the souls of their children for an instant financial comeback.  At the time of the deal, they had one child, Osvaldo Cassalanter who was immediately taken and transformed into a chain devil and hidden in their attic.  Their banking business thrived, and the loss of their heir gained them sympathy from the people of Waterdeep.  Seemingly "blessed by success" they easily recruited nobles in secret to their cult of Asmodeus. Lady Cassalanter at the time did not know she was pregnant with twins, whose souls would be taken by Asmodeus on their 9th birthday, and turned into Lemures to be slaves for Asmodeous. Upon birthing the twins, Terenzio and Elzerina, she came to truly love them and the deal became her biggest regret.    The deal with Asmodeous states that they can only break their deal if they provide one short of a million gold, and 99 souls as a sacrifice. Now that they have an idea that the stone of golorr might lead them to Neverember's hoarde of 500,000 gold, they are frantic to find it and get the gold to save their children. Currently the tasks have been split up between Victoro Cassalanter and Ammalia Cassalanter with Victoro searching for the hoarde, and Ammalia planning a grand gala to sacrifice the 99 souls.   

The Family

  The Cassalanter family is made up of Victoro Cassalanter, the father, Ammalia Cassalanter, the mother, their late eldest child, Osvaldo Cassalanter, and their youngest twins, Terenzio and Elzerina.
