Sir Cecil Gastonne

Sir Cecil Gastonne, the Wyrm Slayer was an exiled Bretonnian Baron in 2276 IC.

He became the champion of his Duke when he slew Norndrak the Tyrant, a Black Dragon whose hide was made into a cloak to protect his slayer. Sir Cecil was addressed as Wyrmslayer by the Duke of Bastonne but the baron was bitter and embarrassed that he had not had the Lady of the Lake appear and offer him a sip from the Grail.

His prayers did not help and finally his anger and frustration came to height at a banquet hosted by the Duke Gastille the Red Hand of Brionne. He challenged a visiting Grail Knight to a duel, hoping to prove himself to the Lady. Still drunk, he proved to be no match for the Grail Knight who forced him to yield but after he had done so and his opponent turned away - he struck again at the Knight. Only the intervention of the Prophetess of Brionne who used her magic to stop the blow prevented the foul stroke from slaying the Knight.

Duke Gastille was enraged and decreed that Sir Cecil must serve the wronged knight until his honour had been restored - yet Gastonne instead choose exile as only the Lady could pass judgement upon him. He departed to carve out a new home in the Border Princes and settled in Louen Keep. He remained a faithful defender of Bretonnia even in exile.

Invasion of King Settra

In 2276 IC he sheltered the survivors of the crusade of Baron Carrard at Louen Keep but learned that Tomb King Settra the Imperishable was seeking vengeance upon them and preparing an invasion of the Border Princes. He sent news to King Louen Orc-Slayer and mustered his household and many mercenaries before marching to the aid of Matorea which was where the Tomb King was likely to land his army.

Sir Cecil arrived at Matorea to find that some of the mercenaries were fleeing with many refugees and embedded detachments of his own forces with those that remained to strengthen their resolve. As they prepared their defences, word came that The Red Hand of Brionne had won a great victory at the Battle of Citadelle Bouelia and was marching to the aid of Matorea. Yet the vast fleet of King Settra landed before the Bretonnian Crusade reached them, initiating the Battle of Matorea.
