Gunthar von Bildhofen

Gunthar von Bildhofen was a noble of the Empire and the brother of Magnus the Pious.

He was known to be charismatic and a popular champion of the common man.

Following the Great War against Chaos, he was created Grand Duke of Middenland, a position vacant after the war. In his new position he relied heavily on the advice of the Ar-Ulric who had previously declared Magnus as a blasphemer and who still remained hostile to the rival Cult of Sigmar.

Following the death of Magnus in 2369 IC, many expected the Imperial crown to pass to Gunthar. When the Grand Theogonist Kazgar XIV declared a miracle had occurred as the features of the Magnus had become imprinted on the shroud that had covered his dead body. Spurred on by Ar-Ulric, Gunthar claimed it was all a trick but the other mourners were outraged and ejected him from the memorial ceremony.

None of the Elector Counts considered him a fit to rule and so the throne passed to Count Leopold of Stirland. He and his family departed Nuln and received sanctuary from Todbringers of Middenheim. Later Gunthar was forced to also abdicate the Duchy and ended his days in disgrace.

His granddaughter Solveig von Bildhofen married Boris Todbringer in 2371 IC. Their son Bertholdt Todbringer later became the first Todbringer Graf of Middenheim and the great-grandfather of the last Boris Todbringer.
