    First Pacification of Luna
    Military: War

The First Pacification of Luna fought in 703.M30 represented what is considered by some Imperial savants as the first known off-world campaign of the Great Crusade though it occurred before the end of the Unification Wars in 712.M30.
The Selenar gene-cults who called Luna home during the Age of Strife and the Unification Wars possessed highly advanced genetic engineering technology that would be of great use to the preparations for the Emperor's Great Crusade.
Despite repeated attempts by the Emperor to bring Luna into the nascent Imperium of Man through peaceful diplomatic means, the gene-cults refused all offers.
This required the Emperor to unleash three of the early Space Marine Legions upon Luna to bring the world into Imperial Compliance.

    Triumph at Ullanor
    Gathering / Conference

With the greatest victory of the Imperium to that date sealed in blood and iron, the call to an Imperial triumph was sounded, to recognise this highpoint of the Great Crusade and to honour all the warriors of the Ullanor Crusade, mortals and Astartes alike, for their extraordinary valour and service to humanity's cause. By the Emperor's command, Ullanor was remade as a trophy world, designated Mundus Tropaeum on all galactic maps and records of the Imperial Tithe.

    Istvaan III Atrocity
    Military: Battle

The Istvaan III Atrocity (alternately spelled Isstvan III), also known as the Battle of Istvaan III to Imperial scholars, was the treacherous military campaign conducted by the Chaos-corrupted Warmaster Horus on the rebellious Civilised World of Istvaan III. The battle fought on Istvaan III served both to amass those forces loyal to the Warmaster without suspicion from the Imperial authorities, and also cull those elements within the ranks of the Traitor Legions who Horus suspected of remaining loyal to the Emperor of Mankind.

    Isstvan V Drop Site Massacre
    Military: Battle

The Drop Site Massacre of Isstvan V, also called the Battle of Isstvan V, was one of the major turning points that occurred early in the great galactic civil war that engulfed the Imperium of Man in the early 31st Millennium known in later times as the Horus Heresy.
After the news of the Isstvan III Atrocity was brought to the Regent of Terra Malcador the Sigillite and the Primarch Rogal Dorn, the Praetorian of Terra, by the Loyalists aboard the Death Guard frigate Eisenstein, the Emperor of Mankind entrusted Dorn with the creation of a plan to deal with the rebellion of the Warmaster Horus and his allies.
Under the Emperor's authority, in ca. 006.M31 Dorn ordered the combined forces of seven Space Marine Legions to assault the positions of Horus and his Traitor Legions in the Isstvan System.

    Guilliman Falls
    Life, Failure / Mishap

In the Battle of Thessala against the Emperor's Children, Guilliman would be grievously wounded. Where Alpharius had not greatly embraced the Chaos powers, and was essentially unchanged from his original Primarch form, Fulgrim had been to the Eye of Terror, reaping the terrible powers therein, and had been elevated by Slaanesh to a mighty and fell Daemon Prince, no longer resembling a man, but his original purity of form corrupted and augmented by the ruinous powers. Fulgrim was now a serpentine creature of immense stature, and multi-limbed. Each limb carried a poisoned sword, and in the clash he stabbed Guilliman in the neck; Guilliman was interred in the Stasis field by the Apothecaries, and remains frozen in the instant of death, while Fulgrim escaped back to the Eye of Terror.

    Russ Disappears
    Life, Trauma/ Loss

In 211.M31 Russ, at a great feast with his Legion in attendance, stood and said: "In the end I will return. For the final battle. For the Wolf Time." He then left the Fang and embarked into the Eye of Terror accompanied by his personal retinue bar one — Bjorn the Fell-Handed, who remained on Fenris in the role of Great Wolf. The tale of his disappearance is retold every thousand years by Bjorn, now the oldest dreadnought alive. Every once in a while, the Space Wolves embark on what is called the Great Hunt to search the galaxy for their missing leader. Though they have searched far and wide, they still haven't found any sign of their Primarch. Many within the Space Wolves believe that Russ has sought out the Tree of Life to restore the Emperor to health. Apparently the Wolf Primarch's arch-nemesis Magnus knows the Wolf King's whereabouts, but keeps it secret.

The Time of Rebirth

    Dorn Falls
    Life, Death

It is generally believed that Dorn fell in battle against the forces of Chaos in 781.M31, while resisting a large Chaos fleet during the 1st Black Crusade -- the first of the periodic and devastating incursions into Imperial space by the Traitor Legions from their hellish sanctuary worlds within the Eye of Terror. Commanded by the returned Abaddon the Despoiler, the Chaos fleet vastly outnumbered the Imperial force. The enemy cornered Dorn and his warriors as he launched a final attack on the bridge of the Chaos flagship, the Despoiler-class Battleship Sword of Sacrilege. None survived to tell the glorious tale of the primarch's last stand.

The Waning

38000 40750

With the Imperium's military forces in every branch utterly exhausted by the Redemption Crusades, star system after star system fell to Ork invasion, Chaos insurgence or sheer rebellion. Anarchy throughout many sectors of the Imperium was rife during a dark period in Imperial history that is now called The Waning.

    The Angevin Crusade Begins
    Military: War

In 322.M39 Praetor Golgenna Angevin, a powerful noble from the Terran Court, was raised to the rank of Lord Militant in the Astra Militarum and granted a writ from the High Lords of Terra to persecute an Imperial Crusade to liberate and dominate the area of space designated as the Calyx Expanse.

    Lord Angevin Reinforces His Crusade
    Military action

Between 341 and 345.M39, having strongly established and fortified two salients of conquered Imperial territory into the Calyx Expanse, with their domains now anchored on the worlds of Solomon and Malfi, as well as defeated three minor xenos empires and innumerable other non-Compliant forces in the prior twenty standard years of fighting, the Angevin Crusade paused for fortification and entrenchment of its gains before the next stage of conquests began.

The Angevin Crusade Consolidates it's New Holdings
    Civil action

Between 353 and 358.M39, with the first and second great phases of its vast operation complete, (and partly owing to battle fatigue after 30 standard years of Crusade), Lord Militant Angevin's forces consolidated their hold of what was more than 200 captured worlds, and shepherded the arrival of the first wave of Imperial colonisation to the areas they controlled. During this period of relative peace, several notable regiments of the Imperial Guard who had earned great glory in the campaign (such as the Brontine Centurions) were given rights of settlement to their own worlds, while several attached forces (like the elements provided by the various Astartes Chapters) rotated out of the Crusade's service.

The Third Great Push of the Angevin Crusade
    Military: War

In 359.M39 the Angevin Crusade's third great push began with a freshly-raised army group gathered from the core worlds of the Segmentum Obscurus, under the command of the Imperial Navy's High Admiral Vaakkon who opened a second front. The new army group to enter the Crusade assaulted the Calyx Expanse from the Segmentum's coreward regions, with the goal of linking up with Angevin's own forces who advanced from Golgenna to meet them.

    The Angevin Crusade Stalls
    Military: War

With the Angevin Crusade’s forward impetus stalled, its domains begin to come under repeated and sustained attack from without in the years 363-369.M39, weathering the storms of an Ork WAAAGH!, and the privations of xenos corsairs and raiders whose assaults claimed the lives of millions. Signs and omens were everywhere; a burning black fire was seen in the skies of the world of Lossal Prime solar days before all contact with the thriving Imperial colony world was lost, the wreckage of an entire overdue reinforcement battle group out of Akurion was discovered by picket ships operating on the fringes of the Ha'az'Roth region and plagues decimatednthe worlds of the Malfian Holdfast.

    Saint Drusus Is Born
    Life, Identity

According to some sources, betrayed by agents of his rivals among Lord Militant Angevin's generals, Drusus was attacked in 367.M39 by a deadly assassin whilst rallying his depleted forces on the world of Maccabeus Quintus and was seemingly slain, before rising again -- an event many saw as a true miracle and a clear mark of the Emperor's favour. The Drusine sect of the Imperial Cult began to flourish in his shadow, already revering him as a living Saint, while shadowy agencies, some say belonging to the Ordo Malleus of the Inquisition, also brought new aid to his forces in the persecution of the Yu'vath and their human allies (which included Traitors within the Imperials' own ranks).

    Expedition

Between the years 370 and 610.M39, mass colonial expeditions from the overpopulated worlds of the distant Segmentum Solar, and from nearer afield in the troubled Mandragora and Gehenna Sectors arrived within the fledgling Calixis Sector, creating a great influx of human population to the region.

    Lord Militant Angevin Dies
    Life, Death

Lord Militant Golgenna Angevin died at his palace on the world of Quaddis in 372.M39. Though the official cause of death was listed as natural causes, rumours lay his decline in health on advanced old age and a surfeit of fine living. Darker stories persisted of the Officio Assassinorum's hand in matters as punishment for his later failings in the prosecution of the Angevin Crusade. Drusus was named Lord Militant by wide acclaim in Angevin's stead (with the political support of both the Departmento Munitorum and the Inquisition) and as soon as a state period of mourning for the late Angevin was over, Drusus immediately set to re-forging the region's military forces for a final counterattack into the regions of the Adrantis Nebula and the remaining strongholds of the Yu'vath Hell Worlds.

  • 38384

    The Angevin Crusade Ends
    Military: War

With the final defeat of the xenos known as the Yu'vath and the Bale Childer and the Exterminatus of their homeworlds, the final serious organised resistance to Imperial rule in the Calyx Expanse ended and Drusus declared the Angevin Crusade to be complete in 384.M39. Drusus was installed with full rights and title by the Equerry Primaris of the High Lords of Terra as the first Lord Sector Calixis to much acclaim.

  • 38417

    Saint Drusus Passes
    Life, Death

The first and greatest Lord Sector Calixis dies and is succeeded by Marshal Corin Shultus in 417.M39, his former aide-de-camp and distant kinsmen to the late Golgenna Angevin. The final resting pace of Drusus' mortal remains is kept a secret, although rumours circulate that he was taken back to Maccabeus Quintus to be interred at the site of his first "death." Mass lamentation and political unrest accompany the news of his passing and the entire sector undergoes a seven-year cycle of mourning.

    First Contact With Tyranids
    Disaster / Destruction

The exact origin of the Tyranids themselves is unclear, save the fact that they are not of The Galaxy and have only recently arrived here after traveling countless millennia in the intergalactic void. It is unknown which galaxy they originated from, or for how long the Tyranid race has been on its genocidal rampage, but it is believed that it is the Astronomican that is drawing the Tyranid Hive Fleet to threaten the galaxy. The Tyranids were first attracted to the Milky Way Galaxy when the xenos communication device known as the Pharos was overloaded in the Battle of Sotha during the Horus Heresy. Indeed their very name is but a title given to them by the Imperium, named after the planet where they were first encountered (Tyran). It is possible that they have been preying on other galaxies since time immemorial. According to another source, they have consumed one thousand galaxies and are responsible for the annihilation of millions of intelligent species.

The Time of Ending

40751 40999

As the threats to the Imperium grew, Mankind stood on the precipice of utter extinction. The Time of Ending was the era of Humanity's judgment, where faith was tested by fire and all Humankind's courage was pushed to its limits -- and well beyond. Secession, rebellion, Chaos corruption and heresy were rife within every corner of the Imperium. Sensing weakness, alien empires ancient and new to Humanity's experience --Orks, Aeldari, T'au, Necrons and perhaps worst of all, the Tyranids -- closed in from every side.
