Realm of Nathirith

Nathirith

Designation: 21st Realm
Capital City: Rathlyn
Demonym: Vethrani
Motto (Common Saying): “In the dark, we are truth.”
Known For: Arboreal web-cities, colossus forests, the Weavers of Fate, bioluminescent ecosystems

Overview

Nathirith is a vast, mist-shrouded realm of ancient forests, glowing fungi, and immense tree-monoliths. Suspended high among the canopy, the Vethrani—an enigmatic and imposing spider-like people—spin vast, silken cities and practice a way of life equal parts ceremony and caution.

Culturally isolationist and militarily calculating, the Vethrani are considered one of the most dangerous and least understood peoples within the Realms. Their cities are woven into the forest with architectural grace, suspended on enchanted threads stronger than steel. Outsiders are rarely welcomed, and those allowed passage do so under constant observation.

Vethrani society is ruled by the Webmother, a hereditary matriarch whose authority is supported by the mysterious Weavers of Fate—arcanists, tacticians, and lorekeepers trusted with safeguarding both history and prophecy.

Major Locations

  • Rathlyn
The hanging capital of Nathirith, suspended among the tallest trees and known for its whispering bridges, lattice palaces, and ancient ceremonial halls.
  • The Shimmering Depths
An underground lake system lit by radiant fungi and crystalline growths. Considered sacred, the waters here are believed to carry memory and ancestral wisdom.
  • The Veil of Silence
A forbidden, haunted section of forest choked in toxin-producing flora. Only high-ranking Vethrani may enter, and none speak of what lies within.

Notable Institutions

  • The Weavers of Fate
A powerful and reclusive council of Vethrani who serve as the spiritual, magical, and political architects of the realm. They interpret fate through visions spun into silk.
  • The Fangguard
Elite Vethrani enforcers and bodyguards of the Webmother. Known for unparalleled stealth, precision, and cold discipline.

Cultural Traits

  • Social Order:
Matriarchal hierarchy based on lineage, contribution to the Webmother’s will, and one's “Thread”—a concept linking fate, skill, and societal value.
  • Values:
Secrecy, discipline, precision, and the sanctity of tradition. Words are deliberate, alliances rarely given.
  • Diplomatic Standing:
Regarded with deep caution by other realms. The Sapphire Assembly officially respects Vethrani sovereignty, but few diplomats feel truly at ease in Rathlyn. The Empire prizes Nathirith’s silk, poisons, and Weave artisanship.

Geography

Nathirith is a realm dominated by ancient, mist-shrouded forests, so vast and dense they form their own ecosystems high above the forest floor. Towering arboreal giants, their trunks as wide as towers and their canopies layered in thick fog, form the very foundation of Vethrani civilization. Suspended among these trees are silk-bound cities, walkways, and sanctuaries. Beneath the surface lies an even older domain—a vast labyrinth of glowing caverns, subterranean rivers, and sacred vaults, many of which remain uncharted.

Ecosystem

The ecosystem of Nathirith is dual-layered: an aerial realm of forest canopy and silk-bound settlements, and a deep-earth world of bioluminescent caves. Life in Nathirith exists in graceful balance, from small light-mimicking insects to massive herbivorous creatures that dwell in the underbrush. Predators are highly adapted, using soundless movement, pheromonal lures, or illusion-based camouflage. All life here has evolved in response to limited light and the ambient magic of the realm.

Climate

The realm remains in a constant state of cool dampness. Mists rise perpetually from the earth, held in place by the immense canopy. Rainfall is frequent but light, more akin to condensation than storms. Temperature varies little throughout the year, staying within a comfortable but moist range that fosters fungal and moss growth across nearly every surface.

Fauna & Flora

  • Flora: Enormous root-systems, luminous vines, moisture-harvesting moss, and spore-bearing blooms thrive in the filtered gloom. Web-vines, a native plant species, form a symbiotic relationship with the Vethrani, producing silk-like strands used in both construction and ritual.
  • Fauna: Ethereal night-gliders, forest sentinels with light-reflective hides, and deep-cave hunters with bioluminescent lures. Many creatures show intelligence equal to domesticated species in other realms, often forming part of the Vethrani's myth-cycles and rituals.

History

Nathirith is among the oldest continually inhabited realms, having existed long before the Pact of the Supreme. Its people, the Vethrani, did not build by conquering land but by weaving themselves into the trees, the caverns, and the very breath of the realm. Unlike other realms that expanded through territorial conflict, Nathirith expanded downward and upward—establishing sanctums of knowledge and magic in harmony with the environment. The position of Webmother, the realm's leader, is more spiritual than political, chosen through ancestral lineage and communal recognition. The current Webmother resides in the Spire of Silk.

Tourism

Foreign visitation is rare and highly regulated. Those permitted into Nathirith are typically diplomats, researchers, or carefully selected artisans. Tourists are escorted and subject to intense cultural protocols, including silence during sacred hours and observance of local rites. However, those few who enter speak in hushed awe of the realm’s otherworldly beauty: glowing cities suspended in mist, tree-cathedrals echoing with whispered song, and underground rivers as clear as starlight. Most leave changed.
