Personal history
Like most kenkus, Rustle’s early life was filled with usually petty crimes. Many in his flock were recruited as minions or just settled with being minor thieves. Rustle wasn’t any different. He joined gangs, usually run by other more humanoid races or at least more intelligent races. Due to his own gullibility and lack of creativity, he fell victim to those needing easy help with no questions asked. He was part of a couple of “major” crimes. But it was one of those crimes that really shook Rustle to his core.
It was meant to be just a simple breaking and entering. It was just a small theft to get a sizable amount of money. It was not supposed to be difficult and no one was supposed to be home. Of course, it didn’t end up that way. The family that lived in the home that Rustle’s group broke into was still at home. This lead to a violent confrontation between the gang members and the homeowners. One family member was killed in the conflict. Rustle was told to set the house on fire. He didn’t ask why. He just did it. Anyone else left alive in the house was trapped by the quickly spreading flames and burned alive. Rustle from his position could see a young girl trapped in the house. It was then that he realized what he had done.
Horrified by his actions and no longer able to stomach the crime, he retreated to the woods nearby. He hid for a long time. He carried the guilt and horror with him, wary of anyone. It took him several years living alone in the wilderness to get a state where he wasn’t constantly scared of a new face.
